 hey everyone, i just got my car back from a 200 000k service (only on 195000 but did it early) and i had to be a fool and flat-stick it for a while, which caused me to chirp second gear, which made a ****ed up noise, and now i can't release the clutch without the whole car making a "thud" , and shaking, like it is scared to drive lol

could this be an engine mount ? as one of my mates reckons one of them is cracked (rooted) ? or is it something to do with my transmission ? Although if i feather the clutch a little bit and ease on the gas really slowly, the problem isn't as intense, just a slight thud .

also, any idea if engine mounts are easy to replace ? cuz i dont want to drive it anywhere, it is too violent and feels like something is breaking ....

ALL replies are greatly appreciated !

Yup, it does sound like an engine mount.

Pop the bonnet and visually check each engine mount, to see if any have split or separated.
Replacing the engine mounts isn't too difficult if you're reasonably handy with tools. Alternatively, it shouldn't cost you too much to get it replaced.

Cheers,
Martin.

hey guys i'm pretty sure it is an engine mount, do you think it would be worth replacing all of them ? also, i think i'v read on here before about aftermarket engine mounts for improved handling etc. worth getting >?

Nah, some of the QLD boys were doing polyurethane mounts on an exchange basis.

IIRC, it wasn't too bad cost wise. More noise and vibration than the stock rubber mounts.

I reckon I have done one recently, yet to look. The driving experiences tell me one's gone.

You will also find the manual harder to get the gears home while disengaging the clutch. It's due to more movement in the drivetrain. If you spin your wheels on takeoff and it axle-tramps (thud thud thud - the wheel bouncing up and down off the road as it spins), that's also another sign.

On a RWD I would have said it was a clutch plate

But I have a lot to learn on FWD's

Even on the FWD id say the clutch plate mate.

Mine was replaced in my old lantra which was causing the exact same issues..

Shuddering and thuds when changing down gears..

Its a 2 min job though to see if its an engine mount..

sorry i think there was a bit of a misinterpretation. What i meant to say was that when taking off (from 0km/h) and releasing the clutch (in first) there is a big thud, which scares me off from going anywhere lol

And when taking off in reverse, it isn't as bad, or when feathering the clutch in reverse i can get away with driving it (but u can't drive backwards lol) .

but yeah, dam cars, so much money.

Also Bain, i replaced my clutch with a daiken unit about 25000km ago so i don't know if it will be a clutch plate ?

Mine does exactly the same as yours, but a big bang from the front left. Happens sometimes on gear changes, happens sometimes when you're feeding the power through and sometimes just happens anyway. I did have a bit of shuddering, but I've got that down to fuel. Premium fuels = no shuddering on take off, regular gives slight pinging and shuddering.

Had shocks redone, clutch redone, engine mounts inspected during clutch replacement. CV's are apparrently fine, so the only thing left I can think of is the front swaybar or there's bushes knocking somewhere.

Granted, I'm not in a third gen, but the basics remain the same.

I do believe Blake had an issue where a borked engine mount put pressure on the clutch plate and made his clutch slip all over the place, so yeah, go and get mounted!

I do believe the QLD Division is selling polyurethane strengthened engine mounts, last time I checked.

Hey guys !
It doesnt look like you know if its a broken mount or not !
what you do is open the bonnet... pull the hand brake on hard... clutch up or load up the clutch (I dont mean try and drive away) and see if the motor tries to jump out of the engine bay and or makes the noise ! !
If its the mount it will wobble around instead of being firm !
