My gear is a 3.0L V6 TF Magna.

I changed my Rocker Cover Gasket(Front) last week. After the service I got an annoying Vibrative noise from front exhaust. It happened any time when I accelerate my car.

I found an exhaust specilist had a look, he told me I need change the exhaust pipe (flexi pipe) which between Catalytic Converter and 1st muffler (which was centre exhaust pipe for 3.5L Magna).

Does anyone know why this was happened? Are there any relation between R/cover gasket and exhaust pipe noise?

I could not image why a pipe can get the noise. Maybe there is something blocked in the pipe, must I replace it anyway?

Cheers,

btw, it is rattles. I also thought maybe it was caused by the middle muffler is loose.

Can anyone give me some idea?

It's hard to say without actually hearing it. Could be anything.

We bought our 97 TF Exec wagon last December. I don't know the why's and wherefore's, but we recently had to have several sections of our exhaust replaced (twinpipe, hotdog and muffler all under used-car-dealer warranty, thank goodness) and I believe they do have bits inside that do break apart.;)

Yup - the baffles inside the muffler can corrode and start falling apart, resulting in pieces rattling around inside the muffler.

Cheers,
Martin.

Yes, I can understand the rattle from muffler, but why the exhaust specialist ask me to change the flex pipe?

Hey HD
Although I now have a full sports exhaust... but I do recall a funny story (true one) that maybe your cause of the anoying rattle ! I had a rattle in the exhaust and drove me nuts along with my mechanic as one drive it was quiet and the next it was there ! Turned out that the exhaust sheild had some gravel in it (being lowered picked some up some where) My mechanic thought it may be the belt pully and other things but turned out to be the rocks in the sheild rattling... true story !! lol
Try that one first before you go replacing anything else !

Oh, yes! They did take a shield off mine too (thinking it was a stone, but it wasn't:doubt: ) before they replaced the twin pipe. Is it a problem that I am now driving around without the shield? The exhaust guy said no, but I wasn't the one paying.

you dont really need exhuast shields the just stop heat from getting to other car parts or the exhaust touching something
The heatshields might just need to be tightened up with some exhaust straps
The xr6 Turbos used to have a problem with exhaust rattle they just put some exhaust tie straps and it fixes it

The sheilds are also for stopping fires so dont go parking in long dry grass ! lol
