Hello
Im thinking if buying a cheap TR, its a auto and only 1000 bucks.
Seems like a bargin, good body/paint nice interior, 210K,
Only thing is, there is a sort of whiring noise coming from the engine. Doesn't sound like the normal rattle you get from the 2.6, I just can't figure out what it is. Happens at any revs but increases with rpm.
Almost a whine noise, similar to the engine noise you can get through your speakers.
Could it be power steering pump, AC pump?
Dont' want a major engne problem.
Thanks

What does the previous owner have to say about it? For $1000 and if it's looking in good condition, there would undoubtably be something wrong with the engine, my 93' TR's market value was $2500, and in decent condition, so $1000 seems a bit suspect to me.

Grab a long screwdriver and put the sharp end on the pump etc and the handle to your ear.
It will work like a stethoscope and you should be able to hear where the noise is coming from by trying different contact points ( alternater, idler bearings, ac pump, ps pump etc).
Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy our company.:D

Yea, thats another problem
Owner doesn't speak much english. from what he tells me it is fine and he has never had any problems with it.
The transmission shifts really well, aircon is nice and cold, power steer feels really good.
Seems like a real bargin.
Body has a few scrapes and dings though, but i only want it for a run around.

mine made a similar sound sold it and heard a week later the engine had caught on fire. sounds a bit suspicious for a grand if its in good cond.
