hey ppl.

apologies if this has been covrd b4, but hey. :)

i was wondering about putting a sub in the space that looks like it's been made for one in the rear parcel shelf of my TE.

a cpl questions,

1 - has anyone else done this?

2 - is this hole actually made for a sub? and what size sub would fit?

3 - are there any issues with a sub in this spot? (rattling seems the obvious one)

cheers peeepl

:D

You would fit an 8inch fine.
I didn't think there was a hole for one?

Lucky - us later 3rd gens didn't have this cut (and you cannot cut it out for structural reasons) :(.

Use an 8" freeair sub..

as long as they're mouted properly to some thick thick arsed mdf, fibreglassed and reinforced with some M20 bolts, then riveted to the floorpan than that should be fine :P

i'm still surprised by the amount of retards with 6x9s just sitting in holes on parcel shelves in their cars. just go for a walk in a carpark one day and you'll see....

could be just hyperdome, since its bogan central and nobody can afford scews to secure their speakers lol

1. 8 incher will fit
2. 6x9's are roughly the same size as an 8 inch sub therefor any Bass Benefit is negated

My Advice would be go for a 10 incher seladed in the Boot as a Better alternative..
This keeps the car looking stealth , less Eyecandy for wannabe theives

There was a 2nd gen round here that had, what looked like 2, 8 or10" subs in the parcel shelf.

I'll tell you this now, i just discovered this exact same hole two weekends ago and started some investigations into free air subs. And in short its not worth the time and effort of doing.

The hole is large enough for a 10" sub to be sat into, however the process of sealing every single hole in the parcel shelf is ridiculous and when compared to making a simple box that is mounted underneath the parcel shelf in the boot makes way more sense.
Plus the amount of air pressure that is required to get a good sound from the sub is well over what is needed 'cause of the size of the boot.

I've also talked to a couple of car audio specialists and they have confirmed this with me also.

So really what you should be doing if you are thinking of subbing your sound system is to build a box that seals up to teh parcel shelf and seal the back seat and utilise that whole for the sub sound to go through.

Just a few tips

Peace

I agree with most peeps here. Unless your going for visual benefits, subs on the parcel shelf aren't going to give you the kick that a boxed one will.

however the process of sealing every single hole in the parcel shelf is ridiculous

On this point, free air subs are a pain the backside because everything in front of the sub, has to be completey air tight to everything behind it! Not a fun process.

So if your going for the Eye Candy factor, then maybe a couple of tens on you parcel shelf will tickle your fancy.

If your going for sound... stick to a box.

Maybe the holes can be used for other creative substance.
