Hey all,
My dad's got a 2nd Gen Verada, and in the past year, the paint is looking really shabby. It's like it deteriorating! It looks really bad.
I see it so often on so many other 2nd Gens.
So now we wanna get the car resprayed head to toe.
So, I would like to know if anyone here on AMC is a sprayer, or knows any good sprayer?
Name, numbers, prices? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks guys.

I would say a decent respray would be worth around $3,000. Incidentally this is probably more than the total value of the car. I think you would be better of selling the 2nd gen and buying the same car or a 3rd gen in good condition. Unless you're building a showcar, respraying is probably not worth it on old cheap cars.

My dad loves his car!
He's very attatched to it. Maybe once he gets some quotes, i can convince him into getting a 3rd gen! hehe.
Since i got my KH, he snaps up every chance to drive it.

What do you mean by decent?
Cause I doubt you would get decent for $3000.
onkytonk, what do you want done and how much are you willing to spend, do you want the entire car painted? (Door handles bumperbars, door moulds etc) or do you just want the body painted.
How much damage is on the car, do you want the car park dents fixed? do you want the ripples in the panels fixed? Are you going to have the windows cut out and are you willing to put a new windscreen in the car?
There are many variables to the question which can not be answered with a simple post of $3000 reply. If you have any specific questions then post them or PM if you like.
BTW I am a panel beater, which is close enough to the required trade to give you some help with an idea of the cost.

i am also looking to get my body straight before a respray.I have a small dent in the bonnet and three small dents on the side of the car. All look as though the edge of a 20cent coin has been banged into the body. (just to give you an idea of the size). Also my left front wheel arch has a pretty big dent.
Firstly how much would i be looking at roughly to have these dent beaten out.
And secondly, would i be better buying a brand new wheel arch for 140, rather than getting the old one fixed.
Im going to the panel beaters today for some quotes, i just want to know when im being ripped off.
Thanks

There are a few ripples, and maybe 3 major dents on the car.
Basically, the parts affected by the deterioration are the front and rear bars, boot, bonnet and roof.
The doors are where the ripples are.
So, technically, the whole care needs to be sprayed. Doesnt need a complete strip because he's happy to respray it in the same colour, but just hates how shabby it looks now.
What do you think?

I take it when you say a complete strip you mean taking the paint off the car and back to metal. If you have paint deteriation, you will need to remove all effected paint and start again. Which means paint stipping the areas as required. You could be looking at upwards of $6000 depending on where you go, how fussy you are and what brand of paint you use.
Have you got photos?

Me thinks prices in Victoria are rediculous how is $3,000 not enough money for a decent respray? my mate got his entire car resprayed a RED with a BLUE pearl ontop and extra clearcaots for $2,500 i think you people get ripped off, SHOP AROUND i have had qoutes for $10,000 and some for $2,000 and the places that qouted me a LOT less i seen their work and its damn qaulity so just SHOP AROUND as i said you'll be supprised how much people are ripping you off!

I'm pretty sure a complete rub down is required.
I'll try and get some photo's posted soon.

its not the actual paint as such that costs the most, its the preporation before the paint hits the car!
3lts of 2pack paint can cost between $100 and $500 (depending on metalics and pearls-probly more than $500 iv never had the balls to ask wat paint goes up to!)
thats a Standox brand aswell, which is german paint, and seems to work very well in my experience.
getting dents out and making sure the surfaces are perfect to spray on is what they will charge on and usually (not in all cases) u get what u pay for unfortunatley.
there is alot of time, effort and pure hard work in prep-ing a car for a flick of paint.
the application of the colour can take as little as an hr or two. but once the clear goes on, uve got to block the whole car back to get rid of any 'orange peel' effects, which does look s h i t if u dont do it.
what colour did u wanna go?

Depending on the colour, you can spend up to $1000 a litre for 2 Pack paints for some of the Chameleon paints.
You get what you pay for, BR377, you probably think they look just as good for cheaper because you don't really know what you are looking at. There is a huge difference in the finish and the quality and most importantly the way the car will look in the future.
Most important - You get what you pay for.

exactly right steve. but i didnt think that his dad would want to spend $1000 on trippy paint like that, thats why i didnt qoute a price lol.
i also think that the better the paint, the better it mixes with the thinners, and the less 'blotching' and 'patches' u get on the finished product.
this can be seen on most new cars, especially cars painted in silvers, and metallic greys.
ie, BA Falcons are extremely bad for this on the sides of the car! looks s h i t h o u s e!

Im most cases yes, but i know plenty of people who have had full resprays and my mate James with a 2nd gen magna paid $4k for his job, nice but not as nice as my other mates $2,500 job with a pearl, the cheaper job looks better, less ripple in the refflection and higher shine, its been going strong for 3 years now look brand new still :)
