id recommend getting a SE or Elante model as they are more luxry, with velour interior, map lights etc. I love the inside of my elante :)

The order went like this in the first gen glx, executive, se, elite, and then finally the elante which had some skirts etc on it. The elite is above the se in extras like remote stereo (still only tape deck though) digital display and elec windows etc.

i thought the tp elite was the most luxurious..
or is the elante the better choice..? :?

theres also the GT, which was like the elante only with stripes along the side and a front spoiler & rear spoiler only (no sideskirts/rear skirt). :P

elantes probly the better choice but ya wanna make sure ya do something with the engine too, its probly in need of some dollars after 12-18 years :?

Mate for the $$ on the above car I have seen some TR SE's, and if after 6/1992 you will have the same basic car as the verada only with a 4cyl. Depending on your $ range you may be lucky to puck up a EI verada or something with the v6

thats just the model i was looking at...
im not gonna pay thet much for it..;P
what do you guys reckon the price range for each model is??
(which is cheapest, & most expencive)
thx...

after all these years they've all levelled out to around the same, depending on condition and accessories etc.

K's is gonna be one of the biggest contributers to price, my elante with 167,000 no central, power windows or cruise, was $3150 after trade of around $1000.

so its just depending on how lucky you are on price and condition availability. Also manuals are pretty hard to find also.

Good luck!

dude. go 2nd gen

my TR SE is basically a verada, and is better inside than some Ei Veradas i've seen

verada interior, interior trimmings and steering wheel

colour bumpers

plus you can also get a 5-speed like mine

and i only payed 4000 for mine

somthing to think about

Take my advice, wait a few months and save for a second Gen. The first ae great cars however a lot more technology went into the second gens

Like all the guys above i can't stess this enough, save a little longer and get a second gen. They are so much more refined. The first gen magna's had problems, lots of them. Get a nice fuel injected TR which you can pick up for cheap as chips these days and you will be laughing for years.

I had a TS and i still say they are a great car but try and get a manual if you can, 1000 times more fun :D

lets just i get a second gen TR/TS magna..
What are the differences and advantages of buying one from a first gen elite or elante??

ps. how much will a second gen TR/TS set me back?

thx!! :o

Madmagna

Here in Melbourne I have seen the odd TR for 2500 bucks in average condition which suits some one doing one up.
The advantage is a lot newer technology, not that there is any major issue besides age with the tn-p, I would however not touch a TM.
The comfort level is superior and if you can get the v6, even an auto will suffice until you can get a conversion which is getting cheaper all the time.

I guess ill go for a 2nd gen after hearing everyones opinion!

ps. Just wanted to know if parts for a 2nd gen are hard to come by, or expencive?

thx!!! :D

Parts can be expensive, but not really. depends what your after

Check that the timing chain has been replaced recently before you buy it. I should be replaced at 100.000k's and at 210,000k's or there abouts. thats abount it really. if your get an executive don't pay more than 3500 and if you go higher don't pay for than 5500

Madmagna

If you go second gen go the v6.
Timing chain in the 4cyl needs replacing when it gets noisy but can be expensive.

just know that a V6 will push your price up a bit more, and if you want a manual it will go up more and be hard. the 2.6 isn't such a bad motor:P

Madmagna

No one said the 2.6 was a bad motor but if this guy is saving he will a/ have time to look around and b/ by the time he has found a car the prices will have dropped more.
I went to a local wrecker here the other day who is wrecking a TR SE Manual, not a scratch on the entire car.

the 1st gen magnas are pretty good price wise. cheap as hell and there are so many of them around, spare parts are very easy to come by. if u were to buy a 1st gen magna, trust me ONLY get an efi manual. 1st gen can look good and go pretty well too. check out this site if u want to check out mine. TM :) and no, dont go TM. 1st gen TP or no 1st gen at all.

note: the bottom picture was to my old tyres which i didnt need anymore in a LEGAL place, since i was gettin the new mags. has some power, even for a stock carb engine. $700 for mags + tyres and stone deflectors. and i also recommend these speedy hyperfang mags to anyone with a RED car. looks good on all red cars.

I'd go with what AussieMagna said. Go for a 2.6L EFI TR magna executive. Not much difference between the TR and the TS so I would just go for the TR if you a tight on cash. I wouldn't recommend going for the carby version. Annoyingly slow off the block but a VERY nice car considering the cost. Depending on the condition you can prob pick up a quality 2.6L EFI Magna executive for between $3000 and $4000 with decent kms. It's worth it though. Most of the cheaper deals have 220,000+kms :( But see how you go. Might be able to get a cheap one at the auctions. I'm assuming you haven't bought it by now... stop reading this....Get back to work mate... jk
