i'm planning to do something with the grille on my '94 TR and before i spend anything on it i'd like a few opinions.

firstly, which other grilles actually mount straight up to a TR?
i know the TS does, but what about the KR / KS?

now, what i'm planning to do is cut out the grille and paint it, then put some (probably blue) mesh in there. do you think i should cut up the TR grille and go with the letterbox style, or buy a different grille and have the mesh in the sides instead of one solid piece?

also, what kind of paint should i use? any certain primer? any preperation that i need to know about? etc, etc?

and what colour to paint it? go with chrome (to match the chrome around the windows, etc.), have it colour coded, or go for some other colour?



sorry if this sounds stupid or anything, i'm at TAFE and i'm almost falling asleep.

I've never had any luck with "chrome" paints, they always turn out just plain silver, but probably look worse than an actual silver paint... anyone had good experiences with chrom paint? If so, which ones?

As for preparation, I think it's basically fine sandpaper, some say you can just spray stright on, but probably best with a plastic primer first.

go to your local paint store that pre mixes 2 pack in cans, its about $25 for a can but F**K does the paint come NICE!

rub it down with 400wet, no need to prime.

or maybe a TH style grille, meshing the TR grille does nothing for me personally, i reckon go for a KR/KS Grille and color code it

ive got the standard ts grille on mine, i colour coded it and then painted the inside part black(horizontal bars). i think it looks quite good.

well dude i rekon the TS grill, after one me self, as to weather or not you should mesh it paint it or watever i not to sure. spose it deopends on you the coloured ones look wicked but i luv da grill on that suped up lowered light blue TS wit mesh grill, da pics floatin around on the forum sumwhere...

im getting a KR grille, debadging and colour coding it :D will post final results in this thread

anyway, i'm still unsure, do the KR / KS verada grille fit straight into a TR magna?
as for the mesh, i can't decide between blue or black (but i'm leaning toward blue, because i'd like a few blue anodised parts: wiper arms, washer jets, etc.)
and the paint, i'm not sure if i want to try chrome or get some paint mixed up to match the body colour.

and for the guys who have resprayed thier grilles - did you remove the badge and spray it, then re-badge it with a new badge? or just mask the badge off before you paint it (like slyts6)?

i reckon that would look cool with a floating mitsu symbol in the centre of the mesh, like dvs's grille.

heres my TR grille, i was going to moved the mesh further back but i couldnt be stuffed securing at that moment and i was thinking going black later as well just the mesh i was looking at did come in black, but it was highly reflective, looked weird :nuts:

That looks just like what i'm thinking, i like DVS's chrome badge on it though, maybe i could find one of those GT badges and chuck that on haha.. How did you remove all the inside? hacksaw and dremel?

yep, that exactly how. i'm going to cut mine out with a hacksaw and then file everything back. after it's all smooth i'll give it a good sand and re-spray it.
then probably mount the mesh right up the back. unless anyone knows an easy way to mount it more toward the front, without looking cheap and nasty?

Yeah the KS grills like that are pretty swish. Personally i'd paint those verticle supports black but on the otherhand that might make them stand out more, either way looks v.nice
