Hey all,

For those who have upgraded to 17inch wheels from 15's
Yokohama have released a few new models of tyre in a 225/45/17 that meet/exceed the Mitsubishi 94H minimum speed/load rating requirement. These tyres are apparently getting big raps by overseas motoring reviewers.
Checkout there website and sizing chart to see what suits.
As we all know its hard to get tyres in this size that meet our required rating.
Anyone else know of any that don't cost the earth. I know Pirelli make some very expensive extra load tyres.....but what in a reasonable price range.
(i know people will say 225/50/17 is the correct size for Magna's as with Ralliart, VRX, and GTV, but if you started with a 205/65/15 then 225/45/17 seems like the right size upgrade going from stock. (opinions?)_ I don't know why Mitsubishi went with the 225/50/17 size standard. Even in this size its hard to get tyres that meet the load/speed rating, so this can't be the reason!

Suggestions on this from those in the know? Only thing I can think of is cost and slight softer ride over handling?

hok, so yokos aint that great, good but no better than the dunlop/goodyear equiv, and its 225/50/17 cos thats what god made it as not 45, find inch up charts (or size calculatrs). last time i looked at a yoko 17 inch price it was 50 odd $ more than the others in the same catagory. these will be no cheaper than the ****ty pirellis! and its not ****ing hard to find 225/50 just to find under 300$.

Ive been quoted $215 a tyre for Bridgestone Potenza G3 225/50R17s - these tyres won the last wheels tyre test in the 215/60R16 category, so the 225 17s should be good too.

The issue with the stock 7 inch rim isnt load ratings - its the stipulated tyre width full stop. You legally can't go over 225, and if your insurance assessor realises this after a prang, you can kiss all that money you spent on insurance goodbye.

That's a very big generalisation....as yoko/dunlop/goodyear all make budget tyres, performance tyres, and anything in-between ;-)

Cheers,
Martin.
