My dad's TF needs a new remote (all the buttons have worn away) and he wants to get the same one i have for my TJ. I'm buying a spare one and would like to buy one for my dad as well. However they say that the new remotes suit 1999-2005 models. Both remotes have 3 buttons, 1 lock, 2 unlock and 3 boot release.
I cant see them being different, but is there something i'm missing here?

i dont think you can.. i've got both a TF and a TJ, and the TJ's remote will not program to the TF!!!! (they are differnt remotes anyways)
haven;t been bothered to go get one for the TF yet... assume it will cost about $60-70 though

I have the 3 button (lock, unlock and boot release) black TJ remote and am using it on my TF ! It came with the car when I bought it ! It unlockes the central locking and the boot !

I think the electronics in the latter models is completely different. More secure encryption etc.

Yes, tried on several occasions, once with the remote as is and once witha new battery installed, no luck, reprogrammed it again for the TJ, worked first time!

they are different looking remotes.. the TJ has 3 buttons.. red/green/grey botton
the TF has 3 grey buttons and is slightly larger

Replacement Remote for KE (kinda peanut shaped, 1 button) cost me $55.45 from Mitsu about 3 months ago... If you take it to Mitsu they also program it in for you for free, so maybe ask them then.....

something i noticed is that the TE has a different remote to the TF. The TE only has 1 button, but the TF has boot release, lock and unlock like mine does (looks different though).

I bought a new remote for my tf, my remote only cost me $27 maybe i got a trade discount though

how about veradas ones
