Hi all,
I've had my '97 TF Wagon for almost a year now. When I got it, my mechanic told me the gas struts holding up the rear door were weak and would need regassing. The dealer took care of it and it all seemed okay.

Recently, I've noticed that in cold weather the struts need time to take up and start holding the door open. In the recent cold snap I can't get them to hold the door up at all.

Is this a general problem with the struts, or does it sound like they need regassing again? If I bite the bullet and buy new struts, how much am I looking at?

Thanks for your time.

Scott

Not sure on the cost of new ones, probably not much. I remember our old comodore, you had to watch your head from fear of the boot (wagon) coming down on your skull.

We got new struts and you had to watch your chin from the boot flying up so hard

I changed my rear boot struts in my 99 wagon about a year ago. It held up the boot but was just taking too long to go up and wouldnt go up by itself. Even when the struts are new, you can notice a difference in how well they work in different weather. On a hot day they work much better and it is sometimes even a little hard to pull it down and on a cold day they are slower to go up.

I cant remember what i paid but i think it was round the $30 each from Mitsub.

Thanks for the replies - looks like it might be a good $60 well spent just to replace the things. I wonder how much the dealer saved by having them regassed rather than replaced...

For memory you dont same much if any and wont last as long as new ones.
Get a price and let us know how much they are flogging you for them. Where abouts are you from?

Repco, Supercheap and some K-mart and Big W stores also sell replacement struts.
