pain in the arse they are. now today i wanted to swap the factory ones for sum fosgate ones. now it's all apart no probs, but i can't seem get to the screws out that holds the speakers in. cos of the limited space between the dash and the windscreen. i dont have a screw driver short enough to fit in the space. has anyone taken out the factory units and do u have any hint or tips. apart from taking out the whole dash. i just need someone elses point of view, u know when u look at somthing to long and all u draw is a blank, but then somone can come along and take a look and come up with a easy soultion and feel free to make a suggestion. bit of lateral thinking needed. probably an easy way to do it just cant see the light

yea well i couldnt find my drill bit
and dont get paid till tommorow so the $2 right angle bit is out.
and also i needed it done asap cos the girl was getting testy cos she couldnt drive the tp when ever she wanted even though she's got no where to go.
as for the screw driver it wasn't even mine, my brother in law left it here last time he was here, cos i needed a small screwdriver and since then he has forgot about it and seeing as hes a asshole most of the time i forgot to remind him to grab it. its only a cheap overflow tool i wouldn't do it to any of mine cos there all good quality.:D

1. Hammer
2. Spanner
3. Phillips Head Screw Driver
4. Flat Head Screw Driver

you should be able to do pretty much anything with these 4, and if you cant ur not trying hard enough.

I couldnt be ****ed with it and just smashed the old dash into pieces and replaced it with some thick mdf.

I bolted the spaces for the 6x9's from under (from the boot) and got some long threaded screws and put them from under again and through the 6x9's and bolted them down with some nuts.

The right tool for the right job
a right angled screwdriver is way too professional for us lot !! cartman :belt:

I forgot we are the 1st gen owners - we are dodgy to keep em going LOL.

I think you are talking about the rear speakers on the parcel shelf. The original poster is talking about the ones in the dashboard.

I wouldn't replace the front speakers anyway, they are really shallow and its nigh on impossible to replace them with new 4 inch speakers that are shallow and also reasonable. The front doors have chipboard covered with carpet, and held in there with clips, gently pry it away and you'll see theres a nice space in the door. I've put good 6x9's in there, the space and wood give perfect sound! its the only spot in the front thats any good for sound, except that the sound is at your thigh (but its all good, sounds awesome!)

Is it difficult to remove the front factory speakers?

Well i dont know how differnet it is from the 2nd gen dash, but yeah it is fiddly, I had to take the grilles off then use a screwdriver bit and a socket wrench to take out the screws which hold in the speakers....They are extreamly terrible speakers

i got 4" speakers i got off here 2nd hand, and a pocket knife.

get a large flat head screwdriver, and pull that metal cover **** off the dash,
get the pocket knife with the screw driver attachment, which i opened at a 90 degree angle so i could reach the screws and unscrew those,
pull out old ****ed up speakers that look like theyre made of cardboard (dont loose the speaker wires down the dash),
replace with 4" speakers,

mine are ALOT taller than the stock ones, and so the metal cover sits on the actual speakers, PLUS the metal cover, covers the speaker up too much IMO, so i just didnt put it back on, but if u do that, u seriously need a dash mat to cover it all up nicely and not look like ****.
