Pretty much the cheapest tyres you can get. Doesn't sound like a bad deal for 18's if they're brand new.

i got my 18" tyres for $180 each, they look like nankangs but are called Sonar Ultrasport SX-I

funnily enuff my 17" nankangs are called Nankang Ultrasport NS-II and treads look very similar to the Sonars

lol

i love cheap tyres

(BTW the price of my 18" tyres was with my KFC discount, its amazing the way ppl react to you when u rock up to their workshop with 2 buckets of chicken)

Nankangs are crap.

For a couple of hundred more you could get Hankook K104's - Ive been told they are really good for their price. This is whats on the rims im getting. If they are good so be it.. If not, well lets say there will be a few smoke shows.

They are aimed at people who

a) couldnt care less what tyre they drove on.. in which case they may aswell get retreads
b) cant afford or dont want to spend money on a decent tyre
c) buy rim + tyre 'packages' to reduce the cost and make the 'package' more appealing as a whole.
d) dont care whether they like quiet or noisy tyres
c) will never push their car to the limits

Think of nankangs as the Black n Gold labelled food of the tyre industry. - You buy it out of necessity, not because you like it.

yeah the cheaper tyres are real noisy, crap at high speed cornering and braking.

My stock 16"s (dunlops) handle alot better than my 19s

beefmagna: I've gotta agree with Bain, they are cheap tires. However they are good for some fun if you know what I mean..

Maybe get the rims with these tires and see how they go, I bet you will wont better tires next time however.

Im looking at spending around the $240 mark for my next set of tires ( still looking into what brand will suit my driving style )

I spent the extra $$$ wen i got my 18"s and got Firestone Firehawk TZ100's for $320 each (discounted from $340ish). These tyres are awesome - quiet, never screech, awesome for high speed conering. I have had them for 18months now and still have enough tread to last to the end of the year and mebbe beyond and that includes burning round mallala raceway for a day at the 05 mgec track day.

I recently got the tyres flipped on the rims (inside is now the outside) as the insides have worn a bit faster as i have a bit of negative camber since lowering. The tyres are expensive but id definetly go them again. I cant see the point in spending a ****load of money on rims and then poving out on the tyres

With tyres, it's very much a matter of "you get what you pay for".

Many suspension / roadholding books will tell you to put the most expensive tyres you can afford onto your car.
After all, the tyres are the only thing between you and the road, and you do all your accelerating, braking and cornering with those tyres....

Cheers,
Martin.

Get the K104's
I've had them on almost a year now, and they simply brilliant.
Plenty of rubber left, they handle like the car is on rails.
They arent super quite, but hell, i can put up with that considering the way i treat them !

i wouldnt let my dog chew on Nangkangs.

Getting a decent set of tyres is alot cheaper then getting a ride to the hospital in an ambulance cos u cheapened out on rubber !

BIG DIFFERENCE with cheapo and good tyres, the laser i had was an old 1.6 carbie grandma car but with superlows, pedders shocks, struts and Pirelli tyres on the 17" mags it kept up with my mates WRX on the bendies :)

i have the crapkangs on now....... i want to throw them in the bin, but they came w the rims.

i've used Hankook K104's, Kumho Ecsta, Silverstone..... Hankook by far are the best in every category (compared to the other 3!) i highly recommend em

ps, the only thing cheaper than Nangkangs, are Wanli........ both are mass produced/knock off/poor quality/slightly better than retread, made in Mainland China crap.
