Hey Guys,

This is my first post mainly as i have only had my p's for 3 weeks. As you can see from my user name i have a ts v6si and also its a manual. I am having a problem with the clutch making a weird noise on me and of all times for it to start, the day i got my p's and finally got to drive it by myself, could the timing have been more ****ing perfect! Whats happening is when i bring my clutch out it makes a noise which dad described as being similar to that of a socket wrench and i can feel the vibrations through the clutch pedal and it happens just before the friction point when i release the clutch.

I decided to make this post because my mechanic is unsure of what exactly the problem is from just listening to it and to find out exactly what it is he said he will most likely have to pull out the gearbox and inspect the clutch which i cant afford. When i took the car to him he drained some lubricant into the clutch pivet points area and that is what he suspects the problem is, something with the pivet points in the clutch. This problem doesn't always happen and sometimes its worse than others but it also doesn't inhibit the changing of the gears so it doesn't seem to be to bad a problem but what worries me is if it gets worse and becomes a bigger and more expensive problem!

So if anyone could shed any light on my problem it would be much appreciated.

Thanks Guys,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew, welcome to the AMC.

The noise you describe could be caused by a number of things.

- There may be oil on your clutch plate lining, or facings may be burned or glazed over
- Your clutch plate hub splines may be worn
- Your pressure plate or flywheel may be warped
- You may have a faulty bearing somewhere in the clutch or gearbox

I'd suggest nursing it until you can get it properly checked and fixed.

Hey buddy,

Do you mean that the clutch shudders and the whole car shakes just as it grips? My TL was doing this randomly for a while no matter what revs I gave it on take off, and it stopped just as quickly as it started. If you have lubricant on the clutch plates a few hard launches in 1st might burn it off. If this greasy stuff got in there because of your mechanic it's his fault and he can pay to fix it :) You said its making a noise like a socket wrench, are you sure it's not the engine pinging (detonating)?

You could try the regular tests to see if your clutch is slipping, like giving the normal revs you use to take off in 1st but dropping the clutch instead of letting it out smoothly, if it stalls the clutch is fine, if the car manages to take off it pretty much indicates it's slipping. Driving along at say 3k revs in 2nd then suddenly flooring it to see if the revs spike before you accelerate is another way to check.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, i'll have to look at those things to make sure but not now cause it's to late and i cant be bothered.

Nah Piv it isnt really a shudder in the clutch and the car doesn't react to it at all and its not the engine pinging cause i can sometimes get it to do it when the car is stationery and turned off, but it happens more when the car is on and moving. I will give ur suggestions a try though when i go out tomorrow, i'll try dropping the clutch on normal revs as soon as i'm on the road outside my place but i think i'll leave the flooring it in second till i'm away from my mum:D.

Thanks again guys, will report back when i know more, (or more likely if i need more help:confused:)

If you can make it happen while the engine is off I highly doubt it will go away by itself :P
