One single problem with my nice new 2001 VR-X!

You guys may not be able to help since its an aftermarket and i have no idea what brand or model it is. But my alarm and audible door lock (you know the "Beep" when you use the central locking), only seems to work randomly, sometimes it will just be silent, sometimes it will be so faint that i need to stick my head basically into the wheel arch to hear it, but sometimes it will work and be loud as all s****! Meanwhile the door locks always work and the lights flash, and the alarm seems to work; ei the hazards flash etc, just not the audible part!

Any general ideas on what i could check or even what i should be looking at?

The main alarm module seems intact, but maybe the alarm siren got water into it, or otherwise somewhat damaged.

When the siren sounds when the alarm is triggered, is it always loud, or does it go soft aswell?

My suggestion, find the siren, hook it up to straight 12v and see what it does.

Maybe go to a wreckers, or even JB/strathfield, and just buy a replacement siren.

This might fix the problem. :)

Cool thanks for the reply. I never even though of water damage to the siren.

When the alarm goes off it is the same, somtimes loud and somtimes quite and sometimes silent.

I have noticed that i actually have two alarms, one linked to the horn, that only goes off when the bonnet is opened and the alrm is on, but the internal one seems to have its own siren, this internal one is the one with the problem. Could the other one bee the standard mitsu one i wonder?
