does anyone have a apexi savc air flow / fuel controller on there magna ? did you install it yourself and what sort of gains did you get ? was it worth it

I have one in my car, installation.. if someone is good at it.. should be easy, for my case, because I had the RSM installed earlier, 3 of the wires that needs to go with the SAFCii were easy to identify because the RSM uses them as well.

THe magna ECU is capable of overwriting the SAFCii's idle control and you will need a resistor to stop the ECU from overwriting the SAFCii controls. The SAFCii comes with a knock sensor too but the magna doesn't so u might wanna consider getting a knock sensor (not a neccessity, but I just wanted to see the knock that's all).

The SAFCii has two settings similar to the AVCR where you can choose 2 different maps to drive on, eg, daily driving map and drag racing map. It is also changed in realtime.

Performance wise, it depends on how far you want to push the car. Frankly, mine hasn't been tuned DUE TO THE FACT that those bloody replacement cams hasn't arrived for some reason... but based on people who had them, they range from 5-20HP (20Hp was achieved through an EG VTEC civic with VAFC and it's probably because of the VTEC)

Value for money wise...
SAFC first gen 8 map points retails for around 400
SAFCii current edition with 12 map points around 500
SAFCii GT Limited Edition (which I have and is a waste of money) retails for over 600 (But I got it cheap back home) - Same as SAFCii only difference is an extra 100 bucks for a white VFD screen instead and supposingly only 1000 units in the World which I don't believe..

Personally, I think it's only an ok investment... more the ooomph looks factor and the fact that no one else has it on a magna :p but I can see that people will start putting them in soon... copycats...

Wait till I get my Power FC running too.. heh heh heh

Tuning is best done on a dyno, around 1-2 hours because in all, there are like over 70 map points to tune....

Hope this helps...

The apexi is good but I woudl suggest looking at the greddy e-manage system

The basic version of the greddy e-manage ist eh same as an Apexi with +-20% fuel adjustment at 5 preset rpm points.

But the main difference is that at a later stage you can buy two additional wiring harness and turn the greddy e-manage into a full programmable piggy back computer with full fuel and ignition timing control so as you do more mods to the car, you can get more power.

We find now that we sell more Greddy systems than Apexi because people are looking at it in terms of what you can do now and what you can do in the future with it.

Dave, where abouts do these harnesses plug into the system? Also, I know you can get that commander display thingie but if you didn't, how easy would it be able to swap maps that you've had tuned? eg. economy, performance? Can you easily use a notebook for instance?

The harness is spliced into the origonal ECU wiring underneath the dash. When we sell the kits we provide a complete hand written wiring harness layout so its easy to install.

With a laptop and the software you can load as many different maps as you tune for no problems.

If you get teh LCD display screen vai the Multi Display unit that saves 3 maps on it which can be uploaded within mniutes. This is how we have our magna tt project - a normal power tune on unleaded, an economy cruise tune and a full power tune on race gas - all can be loaded and saved no both laptop and on the Multi Discplay screen which has a SD Ram car whcih can be changed if you want more tunes.

All in all - the mroe you use it the more of the options it has you want to use.

We are now adding the additional boost control switch and external harness to plug in an O2 sensor and air tempature sensor input into the profec multi display screen so we can use its full data logging functions.

Cool, thanks Dave. Data logging is cool. Fun to look at in real time but interesting to look at when reviewing it. When you update the ecu, do you do it while it's on or running?

It is all done in real time the only way to tune a car properly.

Yeah, that's the tuning side of things, but when you've got a few maps stashed away and you want to upload the 'shopping map' for yer missus.
