Was just flicking through the autobarn catolouge and saw they have the cannons for $69..

i wanna upgrade the muffler mainly cause the one i have now sucks ass and i wouldnt mind a bit of noise...

Now are these fairly easy to install?
Can the DIY type do it?
Or will this set me back more then $70 to get it fitted?

My nannu Has All the welding Things so if its as easy as cut and Weld it can be done BUTTT i just wanna double check..

Cheers...

Depends how many flanges they have to put on. Say if it's a 3" intake and you have 2.5", they will need to fit a 2.75" section of pipe before fitting to another 3". Now, this happens over a foot or so from exhaust-cannon (had one fitted and removed... don't do it in a wagon because it resonates BADLY in the cabin as opposed to in your boot for you sedan drivers).

I can sell you mine if you want to for $50.00 if you're in Melbourne

ive been doing the the rounds of the exdaust shops today... the cheapest cannon i saw was at autobarn, minus fitting. although the supercat cannons had me interested..but for 350

will be getting my exaust done tommorow, going with a berklee twin out muffler with 2 very large tips to fill the hole left by the stock muffler...210 inc. tips and install

i wudnt recommend getting a canon from there the metal bends out of shape after a while happened to my first canon the circle wasnt so circle. they're universal fitting tho easy to install can do urself if u have a mig welder and an angle grinder.

also i've read on here there aint much room for canons on a 3rd gen as they hit he ground on bumps etc. not from my own experience tho.

Dont worry dood my whole system is f**ked, has had smoke go through em for the last 4 years, man gotta get those vavle seals done SOON.

yeah my school has all that + hoist, just im worried the one buzzpuppy offered me might be a bit of hassle to put in, seeing as its a 3" inlet

Save the money and get a REAL exhaust. And im sure u dont wanna get defected for sound. Plenty of cops will do it, espicially if their've had a bad day. And its all drone. Ive got a mate with a Civic was well (sedan) and its all good when he first got it, now he complains how on long trips it just drones. I got my 2" catback and although its not LOUD its got a great sound at low revs. In the end a proper system wins over a cannon.

dont get a cannon berklee's make surpurbe units not loud but you don't want somethign loud that sounds ****. A good exhaust will not be too loud on idle but will sound meaty.... like mine hehehe the berklee will do this but won't get loud until you get up in the rpm. It sounds awesome; unless your in the car you can hear something quiet then your muffler starts screaming above 4000rpm. God i love thorsten aka elements exhaust

hmm sounds like im more after the sound of a cannon than the berklee im looking at. i want ot be able to hear it at idle and low rpm, not just up high

Umm, Is the cannon still on your car, or seperate?

Might take a bit of work getting both cut off and reattached at once, talk to ya on msn about it

As long as the flanges havn't been cut off, should be as simple as unbolting them and swapping them over.

i've been thinking about getting one of those cheap cannons from autobarn for my TR too.
should be pretty easy to mount up, just cut the pipe off of the stock muffler, (maybe add another section if it's not long enough) and weld the cannon on. and do the mounting brackets and stuff too.

those cannons have a 2.5" intake and 4" tip, i'm pretty sure the stock system on a TR is 2.25" (maybe i'm wrong) but you should be able to weld the 2.5" pipe on the cannon to the 2.25" without any adapter.

-those with cannons;
how loud are they on a magna? like, get defected on the first day loud, or not TOO loud?
does it sound alright or not? etc.?

Probably 1st day defect. Like i said earlier, if u catch a cop on a bad day, say bye-bye to the magna and hello to the bus.

Good point, but i reckon its not worth the risk. and a proper system allows so much more: power, response and sound.

With exhausts its defiatley better to save and pay for a decent system, those cheap cannons are cheap because they are nasty, and dodgy. they MIGHT make your car sound good but chances are it will sound like arse and will rust out in 5 minutes and will attract unwanted attention from the cops which im sure you dont want. A quality system will sound nice and crisp without being too loud and will out perform a cunno's special cheapo exhaust any day.

meh i just got a pro to do mine...less hassle, same price

also just remember that buy the tip you pay to have your cheapie cannon fitted, its the same price as a lukey or berklee anyway. most places quoted me 85 to have the autobarn cannon fitted

autobarn cannon $120
fitting $85

= defect machine that doesent look all that great anyway for $205

berklee PEX muffler $210 fitted

= for an extra 5 bucks, you get it done properly

...although im beggining to doubt mines legal.

mates are threatening to put potatoes up my new exaust.

...scary bit is, theyll fit.

$205 eh?
i ordered and payed for the cannon at the end of last week (cost $69) and it should be in some time in the next month.
when it gets into the shop, i'll go back home for the weekend and fit it at work (i work at a mechanic/general engineer place when i have holidays and stuff. i'm pretty much part of the family so i can just come and go as i please)
it shouldn't cost me anything (or clost to nothing) to fit it. so it's not going to cost me anywhere near $200

as for the defect notice, i'm not sure how loud it's going to be, but you shouldn't draw too much attention unless you drive around at 3-5000RPM all the time.
and for the rust, it's stainless steel (not saying it won't rust) and has a 1 year warrenty (probably not much of a warrenty). but the main reason mufflers rust out is when the car is generally taken on a lot of short trips and the muffler doesn't get hot enough to burn all the moisture off.

at the end of the day, it will sound different than most of the other magnas you see every day and hasn't cost too much. so i guess i'm happy.

pay more get good.

i paid only the price of fitting for my cannon. but my cannon is worth $200. Titainiam 4.5" tip and stainless body. It sound absolutlay mint at all revs and it was definatly worth it. if you get the cannon, make sure that you have the pipe made up with a NEW flange so that you can replace your cannon with stock, if your ever in Knox... ive passed cops at full noise about 5000rpm, and had little more than a dirty look and never a defect.

Do not, under any circumstances ruin a perfectly good car by attaching a canon.

Canon mufflers, for when noise > power

Talk to AMC sponsor Phillcom, and see what deals can be done re: mufflers that are actually suited to the car.

Personally I couldn't live with a cannon, they constantly drone  . I love my Lukey muffler, sounds pretty good when I give it a bit, has a bit of crackle-down and when I'm just cruising it sounds like stock. A cannon would be unbearable if you had to make any long country trips. My suggestion, get a Lukey as they're actually magna specific. Mine cost me $120 fitted but if you're gonna fit it yourself it'd be a bit less than that.
