Gday everyone
am looking at trading in the old Te and buying a TL VRX AWD. was wondering if anyone has modified the engine of a TL and what sort of power are you getting from it. Any help with modding a TL would be great

modding a TL engine is the same as modding a TE engine basically
TE - 6G72 SOHC 24v 3.0L V6
TL - 6G74 SOHC 24v 3.5L V6
quick search of forums and u will find the engine mods topics
You got intake mods - CAI and Better filter, Throttle body mods, New Intake plenum
Exhaust mods - Extractors, rear muffler or full exhaust
Engine work - Cams, head work etc (this stuff gets expensive)
Aftermarket chip - Piggyback units like Greddy, Unichip, Haltech or you can go full replacement haltech or sumthing like that too
theres also trubo or supercharger options available, depends on how much money ur wallet has in it

Also get Barry's fuel rail kit and ground tuning upgrade kit.
I have the same model and the sprintex is definately a good way to go but along with brake and suspention mods.
If you want N/A get all the stuff above that THUGOUT metioned. Also if you are modding to this degree consider a replacement ECU not just a piggyback. HM have a set of headers specifcally for that model and Whiteline have swaybars and a strut brace to suit.
As for the exhuast depending on your budget get the whole thing done. The one thats on it stock is not bad, BUT ITS NOT GREAT EITHER, and you will be amazed how much the accelleration opens out in the high end on this car once headers/exhuast are upgraded.
If you have a look at RPW they have a good checklist on the site of upgrades that are possible but more importantly they come in an order with each mod improving or complementing the last. Im not saying to buy your gear from them but they are a great resource for getting started.
This would be my reccommendation for N/A
-CAI & Filter
-Headers & exhuast
-Barry's fuel rail kit and ground tuning upgrade kit
-Swaybars, Strutbrace and Brakes (new shockies as well if you want to lower it but its pretty damn low as it is)
Engine Mods, Fuel Pressure Regulators & New ECU or Piggyback
If supercharging speak to sprintex about what mods to do beforehand as some may be incompatible or just not worth it when combined with Spritex's SC kit.

Interesting - HM headers do extractors for the AWD?
Might have to look into this - I was looking to use the Ralliart ones...
Cheers

My car was one of the first test models it may have even been the first. They had just come out when I got them. Go to HMheaders.com. They have one specifically for AWD and one for FWD.

I had them on about 1 week or so before the rest of te exhaust got done (waiting for parts)
no different in the low end but high end pickup over about 5000rpm was definately noticable.
When i did the exhuast it was even better. Before i could tell the engine with the new extractos had more to give but it gave it after I added the new exhuast system.
Also I noticed that you are looking at a Ralliart ECU. Could I ask if their is a specific reason?

Nothing wrong with the AWD mate. It depends on what kind of stuff your doing. If your mainly intersted in 1/4 mile times then go a FWD if your into mountain passes (epecially in the wet like i do) then go AWD.

wow and I thought our pricing was in the upper scale.
RPW also manafactures our Race design long tube headers for the AWD magnas - and a fair bit cheaper than HM retail price as well:D
The HM brand are only a shorty header hence why they only help in the upper rpm range but still a far cry over teh stock "Shudder" system.

I think anything is better that the stock from the amount that it opened up. Its better noe that the engine in mine has been run in too.

I think anythings better than the stock. It seems to opens up the engine so much no matter what extractors you put on it seems.
