Use only high-temperature paint, usually called manifold or engine enamel.

Other than that just degrease all the surfaces well, something like brake cleaner spray
or electrical cleaner spray works ok. Best is Wax & Grease remover solvent.

Don't get the cleaner or paint on any rubber bits.

It's all about the prep work... don't think that a thick coat of paint will hide surface imperfections. Brakes are harder to do because of temperature extremes. Enamel will dry rock hard, and therefore will crack as the metal expands and contracts beneath it.

I used VHT paints for mine (black on the rotor hubs, red on the calipers) and masked it all up. If you're doing it outside, just remember that a gust of wind will not only introduce dust/sand/grass onto the paint, but will blow any paint onto your duco.

Take your time... mine spent three days undercover on axle-stands. I did the job four years ago and it still looks great!

even at storeslike supercheap or repco, they have 'caliper paint' in a can. Red would obviously be a popular color so they would stock yourchoice. Cheap too, at around $15(guesstimate) for a large can.
