OK... after the headgasket in my car blew today ( ) i got this along the grapevine... trying to find out if its true or not...

Apparently the wall between the water jacket and the pistons is water thin, and due to most ppl not looking after them things become nasty and alot of TP's consistantly blow head gaskets?

True/False....

remember ppl... answer truthfully, the life of my TP rides on it!

i've seen many mitubishi blocks and the magna is one of the better it has a bigger distance between cylinders and water cannels.....maybe it had a cheap gasget or the head hasn't been looked after

yeah managed to get someone to fix it for me on a payment arrangement so i am keeping it for now... but it has been given a firm warning about damaging itself anytime in the near future...

wont know until next week how much its actually going to cost me until the get the head off... hopeing that the head isnt to warped (pretty sure its not cracked) could cost me anywhere from a $500-$1200... OUCH!

more than the flippin car cost me in the first place...

Why do you think you got the car cheap? Most alloy heads get soft and corrode over many years of heating/cooling - owners often skimp on servise for the coolant. I've done a number of Sigmas where the head gasket lets go - always, its corrosion. Just rip the head off, get it welded, recut the valve seats and have it refaced. Then keep thje coolant up to spec. Timing cases used to leak through corrosion too - just poor coolant service.

Astron II has been around for a long time, design is sound.

The mechanics that I mix with all know their Mitsus and none have
said anything too common about gasket failures... usually you'll
suffer a cracked head first. (yeah, check the Magnas at
your local wreckers, top half of engine is always sold quick!)

Falcon 6cyl - I'm told that's the one to watch for head gaskets...
($400-600 job, very common)

The death knell for my TP SE sounded when the mechanic discovered a partial radiator blockage (25%) after the car blew its coolant overflow top on a long trip one 37 degree day ... up until then it was a beautiful, reliable, stylish car and after that day all these cooling system problems surfaced (excessive pressure, temp gauge weirdness etc). :( Yes the thermostat was replaced :)

I didn't want to fix it becuase it already owed me $3 grand for bodywork and I figured it was better to cut my losses and by a TH Solara. ;)
