about a year ago, i had a problem with my starter motor, it would make this awful, loud clicking noise, and the engine wouldnt turn over. In the end i had it towed to the local mechanic and they fixed it (im unsure if they replaced or rebuilt the current one, all i cared about at the time was that it was running) and that cost me just under $300

A year later, i am having the exact same problem, i wouldnt of expected this to happen so soon. Any idea on what this sounds like? Am i able to do anything myself?

Are you sure the battery isnt flat?

Also check Battery terminals that they are clean and secure. Also check connections to the starter motor and alternator as well finally check any earth straps from engine to body of vehicle if applicable.

If all else fails you could try another starter motor or try Auto Elec..

For that price it would most likely have been a recondition of your existing starter motor, try all the above suggestions. Its time may just be up !!

Problem Solvered, i feel so stupid, yeah the battery was a little flat, a mate's uncle suggested the same thing so the jumper leads came out and bobs-ya-uncle :D

Had the battery in for a while, so it might be time for a new one.

Thanx for the help ppl! Greatly appreciated

Your starter solenoid could be on its way out. It way pull fine when you've got
full voltage from the battery (when its warm and engine just turned off recently)
but park it for a few days and it could be hard to crank again.

A jamming starter solenoid can be loosened with a sharp tap (temporary fix); with
Astron II its handy to carry a 1m long broomstick to reach the starter motor to give
it a whack.

For $300 I'd be expecting an all-new Bosch unit + labour.

ha ha you got so ripped off the first time i reckon. bloody mechanics.

it worried the heck out of me the first time i had a flat battery and i got that noise.
i thought my engine was totally rooted.
called the RAC out and he said flat battery. sweet.

why does it make that noise anyway?? does anybody know?
