Hi
I've had my TL VR AWD for about a month now - love the car, but there's one problem I'm having with it whicdh I can't quite understand. The problem is that the alarm will se off for no apparent reason & when it does it is quite a few hours since the car was driven and locked. For example tonight about two and a half hours after I drove the car (locked with the remote) the alarms went off. Dashed out of the house (in the wonderful Melbourne rain) pressed the red button (no effect) green button doors unlocked and alarm wen off.
Any ideas what could be causing this - am I doing something wrong when locking the car, or could this be a fault which should be checked out by the dealer.
Cheers
u sure it might not just be sensitive and was hit by a heavy thing blown in by the rain?!

This is a common problem in the US with the diamantes, your problem is the hood pin. It is probably bent slightly and therefore not making full contact and will set off your alarm. Open the hood remove the rubber bushing and take the pin off, but a washer or 2 under the pin and you should be all set.

Nope - it's gone off in the middle of the night when all is calm.

Where is the hood (bonnet in Oz) pin located??

ok, to test out the bonnet switch, to see if this is causing the problem... set the alarm on, wait for 20 secs or more.. then walk over to the front of the car and slightly pull up on the bonnet, driver's side, near the edge. if the alarm goes off, the fault is with the bonnet switch! to fix it, pop the bonnet, look down, drivers side, not far from the washer botttle. u will see the black switch, held on by a 10mm bolt! u can bend the bracket upwards to fix the problem, or place a washer or 2 under the bracket to " lift " it abit.. to get a better contact!

Failing all that, get it checked by the dealer, but preferably an auto electrician. Hubby's VL alarm used to go off in the middle of the night in a locked garage.

Tried as you suggested a couple of times, but the alarm did not go off - so I guess that's not the problem.
Can the dealer run some diagnostics on this sort of thing or is it trial and error?

i'm fairly sure the mitsub alarm doesnt have any kind of movement sensor in them,. Just door, bonnet and boot sensors. Might be a faulty connection in one of the door or boot switches.
I can almost gaurantee it is the bonnet pin as i had exactly the same problem. My alarm (factory) went off in the middle of the night while it was quite cold. I think it was the coldness that made the pin/rubber/bonnet etc contract and was just enough for the car to think the bonnet was ajar.
Packed the pin up with 2 washers - never had a problem since.

Tried the suggestion at the weekend and there have been no problems since (fingers crossed).
Funny thing was, the alarm would go off at random then all I would do is (using the remote) unlock the doors then relock and the problem would not occour until the next time I drove the car. I even tried a couple of times locking the car waiting for 20 seconds or so, then unlocking & re-locking and the alarm did not go off.
Thanks everyone seems like to problem has been fixed.
This is something that should really be fixed under warranty - but Murphy's Law says it won't happen while it's at the dealership.
