I couldnt change the topic name

Well i couldnt find anything on the search..... but im after some opinions aswell...

Im looking to buy a 3rd gen magna.. and looking at either TJ Executive or VRX and i found both at 1 dealership...

The Executive TJ:
Black
Manual
01 model

$14,000

The VRX:
dark blue
sports auto

$17,999

What do you guys think i should go for...

im leaning towwards the sports because of the manual... but the vrx has the body kit and nice rims..

tough decision

go the sports, manual gearboxes r heaps more valuable in my sense than a kit. u can always chuck a kit on it later anyway :D ull have a lot more fun with the manual, plus its BLACK!

Being an 01 model the Sports might be either a Series1 or MY02 a way to tell the difference if it has climate control or not.

Going to Sports would be the better option by far and as one of the others has said you can buy the kit afterwards and still end up saving money.

um... but like i said ima dickhead and realised it's not a sport... or because its a manual still go that ??

I'd say still go the manual exec. unless you want all the goodies like power windows etc.
The only difference performance wise is the exhaust and suspension which you'd probably update anyway.
Cat back exhaust with a straight through sports muffler, springs and shocks and you'll outperform a standard VRX easy. For way less money too.
Just depends whether you want to do a few mods yourself or if you want the extras.

do you want to potentially run 14.5 or 15.3?
chop a ss or chase a ss

Shop around... don't rush into it... I nearly bought a Exec, but after doing a lot of searching ended up buying an AWD sports for the same money and has less km's...
($14,000).

Don't buy the firtst one you see~!

Are you saying go the vrx because it has more power.... or... are you saying go the manual because of some other reason which im to stupid to work out..

He's saying go the manual. The VRX has 8kws more but its auto box lets it down, nearly a full second down a quarter mile. Go the manual you wont be disappointed.

Are the autos that bad?

I recall on a Mitsi course a couple of years ago getting shown that the tiptronic auto was only 0.1 second slower than the manual in acceleration. Cant quite remember what model it was though.

Am a bit confused to
Thought the tiptronic was worth having, and isn't a clutch replacement about $800?
If it was me, i wid go the vr-x, surely would also have a better resale value?

All about opinions, I suppose

valaxy66

nah the manuals have a better resale value, due to the rareity of manuals,

i think the manual would be more fun to drive the tiptonic, but look at from all angles,

well the vr-x is a newer car, more stylish,

but the exc, older car, however has less k's on it,
'just to name a couple

the manual would be more fun, and if you get the 'rev head' fever, you'll have alot more omph then the auto, besides, the manual is cheaper, and as others have said, the money you save from buying the manual, you can put that kit and rims on it. keep that in mine,

$14k for a 01 TJ executive is ridiculously overpriced. I remember in 2002, I saw TJ executives selling for $15k at the auctions and they were only 1.5 years old! 4 years have passed since then, and they still want roughly the same amount... The 01 TJ Executive is probably worth $9500.

It's a Sports, not an exec.

Oh, well that changes things a bit. Still tho, I think you'll find the Manual will be better for performance (you can get the extra power the VRX offers very easily) Just depends what sorta trim level etc you want. The VRX is a very nice car inside and out. TJ VRX is one of the best looking magnas ever IMO.

i think i will go the manual... because im after more fun whilst driving the good ol' magnas... all i have to do now is see if i get the financing lol.

get a manual but do some more shopping there should be some more bargins about like private sales

Nathan

Yeah mate shop around you'll be able to pick a Sports or VRX with less K's and abit newer for a little bit more $$ but it'll be worth it.

I paid $19990 for my 2002 Series2 TJ Manual Sports with 50,000km's on the clock from a dealer July last year. Most likely they'll be cheaper by now and even cheaper for a MY02 or Series1.

Here's a MY02 for $16990 http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.dealer_vehicle?vehicle_id=2850934&current_rec=23&total_rec=75&sort_type=1&make_id=3&model_id=57&keyword=MANUAL&state_id=-1&search_distance=25

You can find better examples of cars around than those. Not the topic but as an example i bought an 03 KJII AWD Verada fully specked up like an XI with only 40,000k's on it for $20,000.

Would you prefer to drive a manual or an auto? would you rather $4 grand in your pocket later or not?

Sometimes its easier to make a decision if someone puts it into a different context for you.

buy a manual executive and the money you save on it then buying a vrx spend it on the engine, new cams etc

at the end of the day exec, sports, vrx /// what ever means didly really .... they are still very much the same car and none have no real advantage of the other cept for maybe small creature comforts .... i own a manual sports and well .....it just has different white speedo etc .... any performance upgrades any of these cars have is so insignificant its not even worth mentioning..

i ges the vrx has the advantage of a bodykit... but yeah the only badge thats worth looking at as something that sets it apart from another magna is the VERADA badge ;)

Shop around man. Go on Carsales.com and look for a Manual in a VR-X or a sports. Better yet check around spend the time looking to get the right one. If you like the VR-X try to find one in a manual. I know they are rare but they are around, or look at a ralliart in a manual.

Why not go all the way & get a TW VR-X? Check out this ad:

carsales.com.au (http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.dealer_new_vehicle?vehicle_id=2726833&current_rec=2&make_id=3&model_id=57&state_id=-1&search_distance=25&cs_body_id=2&year_min=2004&year_max=2006&cs_trans_id=2)

Might be what you want, but not necessarily what you can afford.
