i think its more the fact that its against the law to put an older engine into a newer car.for example if u were buliding an old torana u couldn't put a flathead in it. dont quote me on that but im pretty sure u wont get passed for a rwc with a older engine in ur car. as for fiting it to ur car well im not sure on the mounting of it but they both turn the same way, but the 3rd gens engines turn the opposite to the 1st,2nd gens. so im guessing that with some money it could be done. but u have to remember that the 2nd gens are heavier to there more to push. where as the tr/ts engines have better compresstion and a bit more low down tourqe.

another problem which i dont thinks ever been covered is if your 2nd gen is efi you will have an issue with the knock sensor cos there isnt a provision for one in the 1st gens i dont think

The only reason i ask is because i have a TP that i crashed and its just chilling in the yard... the body just cant be fixed on it because ive totally drilled it. . ( would get some pictures but located on my uncles property )

And my grandfather who needs to be doing something all the time has a 2nd gen TS shell... so he said he would transplant it over..

Now my whole family a mechenically minded ( except for me ) so i just wanted to give them some info before he does it...

The engine out of the TP has been modified.. he pulled it apart and put all new parts in it.. hes crazy lol...

When you make a hot rod,you can use an older engine. My mate col,he making a 32 ford ute from the ground up.It have a new body and new chassis.

Given that the pollution gear (except the knock sensor) is pretty much the same I dont reckon you would have that much drama. Using an older engine is usually only an issue when the older engine does not comply with the newer engines relevant ADR's.

In this case it sounds like your family know what they are doin and could probably do the mods required to put in the sensor and anything else they find different, and you shouldnt have a problem.

Ask your local motor transport dept to be sure.:D
