Ok, we just want to know a few questions..

We are going to put a dvd player n screen in our car, for our lil girl.... we are very new to all this so we are wondering how youd go about having it all set up so we can have a dvd playing for JJ (our daughter) and then us able to play a cd & listen to music for us.

hope that makes sense?

jus so you know, she is only young so head sets arent an option atm.

TIA

there's a few ways you can go ... you can get a roof mounted screen/player combo or you can put a player in the dash with a roof mounted screen

all depends on how much you want to spend

ok well, in the car we just got, it already has the spot to put a screen (roof mounted) and we have been offered a screen (the one which was in it)....

There are a few headunits out nowadays that have dual zone, where people in the back can listen or watch one thing, and the people in the front can listen to something else.

These arent cheap headunits though, you won't find this feature in low end h/u.

But the idea about having a tv-screen that has the built in DVD player is a very good idea.

Portable screens are also a good idea
- 1 - they are very cheap nowadays ($150 for a 7")
- 2 - You can always take it out and use it in another car.

i'd stay away from the headrest screens they are to "in your face" go for a roof mount flip down combo if posable ... that way the kids can watch dvd's and you can still listen to tunes and not have to pull out all your dash to do a dvd install

+1 vote for roofmount screen/dvd player. should b able 2 find this combo fairly easily, basically the dvd player is in the main unit of the screen :) even with the 2 stage HU's which arent overly expensive, u could still only listen 2 the radio while playing a dvd (obviously u cant play a dvd and a cd at the same time out of the HU).
also with a roofmount combo, try ebay, and i'm sure u could get one that plays divx etc, which would b handy 2 have more than one movie per dvd...good for long roadtrips

hmmm would it be possable to set up sum kinda audio switch with 2 head units so if u want music and the wee one wants lion king u could switch the DVD to wireless headphones and the CD HU to speakers or if u all want lion king (dun ya just luv that simba/narla luv scene) then switch DVD to speakers

have you consider getting a portable DVD player? That way your little girl can watch all her fave movies while you enjoy the control of your normal stereo. These units cost around $400 from memory and you can use them anywhere :) Some of them come with straps etc so you can tie them on the back of the seat, or inbetween the two driver seats!

Thats an idea to pop if you dont want to spend that much.

i bought a portable DVD unit from strathfields for $180, mounted just behind the interior light, inverted the picture, bought some extensions for the power and audio cables and ran them through the roof lining and down the door sill.
i still have access to the head unit's function if i need to, as the DVD unit has built in speakers.
My daughters love it.... Damn Hi-5 DVD's !!!!!!!!!
