I have been talking to a few places to get my exhaust done. Everyone that i have talked to said that 3 inch all the way through would take performance away from the car and be excessively loud. What systems are you guys running on your cars, and what system would give the best performance?

3 inch?!

Slap them all for me.

2.5" mandrel bent for an Naturally aspirated Magna...dont go any bigger

I have a 2.5" mandrel bent cat back exhaust with a Lukey LR2779 muffler...nice quiet at idle..has a nice bark when under throttle, not super loud.

I also have RPW extractors.

sweet how much did you pay for the 2.5 cat back? Did you notice a big difference in performance with the extractors? I don't mind shelling dollars for custom ones would this be even better?

you need to read posts more carefully kb. oh and the rpw extractors are custom tuned for our magnas. why waste more money getting the same thing? i got a quote for full 2 1/2" mandrel bent custom system with redback muffler and dtm twin chrome tip for $450. i dont know how good this quote is but i know it will be good work. how much did you other guys pay?

Yeah, the exhaust dudes are right, 3' is too big. You're existing piping is fine, no need to waste money on it. Just get the muffler swapped to a straight through Lukey, Magnaflow or similar. Money waisted on exhaust piping which is good enough could be spent on a filter or go towards extractors.

I didn't ask for a specific brand of muffler, does this mean they could've used any old rubbish and i've paid a lot for it??

Possibly. I rang Jack Beedhams over here and they said 99 bucks. I said you kidding? For the Lukey? He goes no, but it will do the same job. I said I want the Lukey and he got all defensive why and yadayadayada. So, I figured that unless you're specific, they'll use whatever they want which will be the cheapest.

firstly magnamad, im seeing a trend developing here. you really need to be more assertive when it comes to your car. while most guys are good, there are people who will screw you over coz they can get away with it. if you want id be happy to help out next time you want to do something in this regards.(chill people, she lives not far from me). even if you didnt get the lukey, they still would have probably used a good straight through muffler. there are quite a few brands. my guy told me the quality of lukey had dropped since they went to walker, and he reccomended the redback, which was also a little cheaper. he said the best way to tell the quality of the packing is to pick the muffler up and drop it on some concrete.(only from a few inches) it should make a low pitched thud. if it sounds like a high pitched metal twang, stay away! hope this has helped.

How much should i expect to pay for RPW extractors? Are there a street type and a racing type?? (thought i read that somewhere?)

Yeah, i'd love to do so many things to my car, but i work out what i want, i tell them and they say no for such and such a reason. I could have bought a good high flow muffler and taken it to the exhaust place to be fitted but it's my fault 'cause when i decide i want something...I WANT IT NOW i don't want to wait for anything. When i took the car into the exhaust place i said i want a twin chrome tip with the rolled ends, he said we only have one without the rolled ends or one that was VERY tiny. He said i can order you one in...i said i'll just take the one without the rolled ends then :(
So yeah nothing has gone right: Tyres, lowering, dual exhaust (space was too small he said) chrome tip....
But i didn't specify what muffler i wanted, i just said i do not want a high pitched tin sound, and they did what i wanted. Anyway i'm happy with the exhaust, except it's loud and i don't like drawing attention to myself but eh...it's done now
This post was of no use to anyone but i feel better now, Thanks! :D ;)

Not sure on the final figure. You could try Dave but I'm not sure if he's sure yet. They are called race spec and I don't know if they have any street spec left. I know there were a set that are being used temporarily but you'd have to check with Dave to see if there were others available.

Yeah, you need to be careful with what you're after. If you're buying one part and it gets fitted, it's not that big a deal. If, however, you're after something with multiple parts that make up something bigger, you should be careful. A mate has a 3.0 auto and his uncle runs an exhaust shop and he suggested getting a Lukey muffler. Good stuff, he got the right one. Unfortunately he also got 2.5' press bent piping and no resinator. It sounds totally different to mine. He said he saw noticeable gains but I reckon he's dudded himself in the piping department. *shrug* he's selling it now so it doesn't matter.
