As much as specified in the owner's manual ;-)

I'd recommend filling it until the oil level is just below the "full" mark on the dip stick.

Cheers,
Martin.

Holy sh*t... 15w50 oil? You guys must be getting crapy FC from this type of oil viscosity.

Don't start with all these FC business. The recommended oil grade for all Magnas are shown as Semi-Syn grades. People can choose what they wish to put in their car. I use fully Syn and I don't see much big deal of a difference. I have used semi Syn before and they work all just as well. I do get good FC and for the record, my car is a 4 Cyl. No complains and not like the Engine grade for 15W50 is lousy, putting too light grade may not be that good either if the climate is wrong.

I am very sure many here can challege FC and I think is has nothing to do with a grade like 15w50, it can be 5w50 is all the more about the same. You are not going to see a huge difference. You think when you buy a car brand new they would give you semi-syn oil under your warrenty service? Dream on! Unless you are willing to pay for it, they provide the normal grade oil. Yes full syn oil do improve fuel economy but don't expect to see WOW big difference kind of thingy.

You see no diff in FC because you are using a 50wt oil, be it 5w50 or 15w50....
The first number indicate Winter rating and the second indicate SAE viscosity @ 100'c

its not good to fill it to the top (full) as it put a lot of presure on some seal in the engine (quote my machic:D ). just do it about 75%,

In case you didn't realise, there is an recommended amount of oil to pour for all Magnas.
eg. Magna TE uses 4L for Engine and 300ml for filter, total 4.3L.

If in doubt most shops have it listed. else refer to the Oil list that I have provided.

Cheers!

Well the minimum amount on the dipstick is the absolute MINIMUM, that doesn't mean if its a quarter way that everythings fine :) hehe. Many farmers would recommend half a centimetre above the full mark, as the full mark just represents the exact level where you should run your engine! Now they'd know, if they have equipment failure during harvest and it rains they could be screwed. They'd never go out with the dipstick half way, and although its a little different because they're diesels they run their cars the same way (both their diesel work cars and personal cars) half a centimetre above full and you don't burn oil. I have a Magna TP EFI where I do this, using Penrite HPR!5, but it never burns oil and I change the oil at 10,000, she's still full :). I got a friend with a newish Honda Civic sported up, he had oil burning problems until he did the half centimetre above full thing, now no problems!

it looks like I would know more about engines if I was a farmer out the back of the black stump than all the time spent getting qualifications!!!

DO NOT over-fill with oil as it will blow past the seals and the engine will often dump the extra oil from unexpected and unwanted places.

Get the best oil you can afford and changing the oil more often than needed to is a waste, unless you are using the motor to its extremes.

Come on guys - there's a reason for those "low" & "full" marks on the dipstick; they indicate the safe operating range of oil level - keep your oil level between those marks & your engine will be fine. If you over fill, you can cause damage to oil seals etc, if you don't have enough in to reach the "low" mark you risk starving the engine of oil. Pretty simple I'd say...

Drift cars and rally cars using a standard sump and any one who punts there car into a fairly hi 'G' should run 500ml more than specified than the book. this way when the car is tilted 45deg to the corner, you dont starve the motor of oil. that means in the case of the aston 2 in second gens, use about 6L of oil.

If I were a mod, I lock the thread, I am still wondering why people are still arguing over this.
Its in the car manual, it is in the oil guide in the shops, its also available in the web period! You find that if you poured as recommended is where the dip stick level is.

they all have oil pumps/ oil catch can(i thinks thats whats its called) to prevent this occuring. its an after market part that every drifter has, like my brother.

SMART MAN!!! don't over fill it. the guide tells you the amount, but common manufactures make these cars so the F**K up, otherwise they don't make even more money off you.
75-80% is the ideal amount, full is the max amount
