easy to do your self if you have the tools
this proceedure used on most every front wheel drive car
put simply
undo outer cv joint hub nut
undo tie rod end -undo bottom ball joint
when both are free of the tappers
pull brake disk outwards till cv joint spline clears hub
put oil catch container under gearbox tug on the cv joint till it comes out
replace gearbox drive seals realign splines to the new cv joint re tighten
So are there any "special tools"?

You dont need to undo the ball joints. If you undo the 2 bolts that hold the hub to the strut the hub will swing down just low enough to slip the spine of the drive shaft out of the hub.
That saves damaging the ball joints.
You may need a 32 MM socket to get the nut undone on the end of the drive shaft. This takes quite a bit of effort, I cheat and use a rattle gun. :D
Use a large flat blade screwdriver to gently lever out the shaft from the trannie, sometimes when you pull on them the trilobal joint (trannie end) comes apart.

I guess you could leave the ball joints intact but it'd make it harder.
Also if no-ones done this before, it is A LOT easier to undo the hub nut before the car is raised. If you haven't undone ball joints before, all you do is smack them on the side a few times with a heavy hammer (leave the nut covering the top of the thread though or you may damadge it), but don't get all Rambo on it or you will break it. Also when I did mine drivers side one last weekend I found that the splines stuck a bit in the transmission, all you need to do to release it is to tap the hub end (again with the nut on covering the thread) gently a few times and it just comes out. :thumbsup:

What he said.Definetly easiest way to do it.
Also undoing the hub nuts i tend jam a piece between the brakes and the front seat to stop the wheels from rolling.

you could just leave it in gear (to lock the front wheels) or put the handbrake on (to lock the back wheels). Better yet, do both! :D

how long does this take i got a new CV sharft for the right side (for TP magna)
need to replace it to get a road worthy and it only costed $140 for a new 1 from repco
if it should only take about 1-2 hours ill give it ago or ill just drop it at the work shop they quoted me $66 to fit it

one and a half hours at the most
if you have done them before less time
doing it old farts way is the quickest
drivers side is the easiest
sick looks like im saving $66 but do u have to get a seal and where does it go?

thanks ill start this tomorrow if i remember ill take photos of the process to help myself when putting it back together and help ppl do this if i do it right :bowrofl:

woot i chnaged the CV over this arvo was piss eazy but i forgot to jack the car up on a angle to stop losing trannie oil so had to pay $40 in getting more i forgot how expensive the **** is so in the end i only saved $25 and lost a few hours :bowrofl:

New trannie oil can't hurt though...
