Hi there
My KH Verada makes a grumbling noise when accelerating under light throttle (around 1200 rpm). Its worse when the engine is cold and seems to die down as it warms up.
Any idea what it might be?

Timming belt possibly. Or one of the other belts.. Cant think of anything else.

check that your car doesnt have the useless a/c pulley on it.. meaning, pop the bonnet and look down into your engine bay, if you see a pulley near the alternator, that is causing the grumble noise! if its there, slacken off the a/c+alternator belt, remove the pulley, 14mm nut, and also remove the bracket, 2 13mm bolts, chuck them in the bin and refit the belt and tension it, tightly! other than that.. change the belt, and tighten it bar tight! that should hopefully fix it!

Hey Mitsu Mad
Have a look at the pic the bits in red is this what you are refering too. Which bits go in the bin. Im confused..
If you could post another pic it would be great.

dude, dont remove that.. that is the adjuster! if you dont have the idler pulley there, inbetween the a/c compressor and alternator.. then that obvioulsy isnt causing the grumble.. :) id then change the belt, and tension it up nice and tight!

Exhaust Manifold?
Does the car suddenly sound like it has some form of aftermarket exhaust that makes it sound like a tractor? has it been getting louder?

Guys
Just for sack of clarification, it doesn't do it when the engine is free revving, only under load and at very light throttle under take off - I have heard a lot Magnas with this noise - is it the ac belt then?
Please note that it gets better as it warms up. Would the Timing Belt do this? Is it an issue of Tension in the T Belt?
thanks

Just sounds like you have to tighten up the alternator belt. As said by Mitsumad they have to be tight. Quite a common complaint.

Yeah Give the belts a tighten first. Would recommend a mechanic doing it. Magna belts are aparently notorious for stretching so you might even need a new one.
I had belts changed in both KH and KJ because they were stretched and the adjuster was fully adjusted.
Once i had them done and tensioned properly the car was back to dead quiet. The KH needed to be adjusted again a few weeks after new belt put on but has been fine since.

Mine had the same grumble as yours just off idle slight load. Anyway had a crack at it today. Jacked drivers side car up removed plastic panel towards engine under guard to expose the belts. Adjusted both belts bit tighter. Noise has now dissapeared. All good now.

Samething has started to happen in my TJ as well and only happens while slow driving. first its makes some sound at 1200 rpm and stops and then from 1600 rpm - 1800 rpm and only happens when you are driving. no sound at all in neutral or in Parking. strange.
I was worried that car has started knocking but sound dosent feel like it. time to give steve or ryan a call at performance auto's :)
