Had an oil leak in my TR magna.
Oil is pissing out of the cam shaft where the water pump pulley goes in. Had a look in my good old gregorys manual and i'm 99% sure that the seal at this location is bung. i just had a head replaced, so i presume they would have had to take apart the cam shaft to get to the head, in which case they should have replaced the seal regardless of how old it was (well thats what gregory's said)

Anyway, how do you replace the seal? do you need to pull apart the cam shaft or can you prise out the seal with a screw driver and push a new one in? just really wanna know because i can't spend much time working on the car, or otherwise if it requires pulling apart the cam shaft, i'll just take it to the mechanics.

Thank you

yep, done heaps of 'em, take off the black cover over the water pump pulley,(two bolts) be careful with the one going into the back part of the tappet cover, as they can break the tappet cover, undo the 14mm bolt holding the pulley to the camshaft, pull the pulley off,(no need to mess with the water pump adjustment unless the belt is loose) dig the old seal out and use a socket or something like that to knock the new one in, put the pulley and cover back on and whammo, done, easy peasy:) ...... by the way it should have been done when the head was done 'cos the seal comes in the gasket kit, but i have seen the seals pop out if not fitted right, so maybe it was done... ps i do this for a living (mechanic) so i like to think i know what i'm on about:) ... hope this helps.

thanks, makes sense what you're saying.
the mechanic i went to was dodgy, not going back there again. wouldn't be surprised if they didn't install the seal properly.
if you're a mechanic in melbourne, i'll have to keep you in mind.
