hey everyone, how r ya all goin?

has anyone ever replaced the lower front engine mount on their 3rd gen before ? does anyone know the proper way to support the engine and put the mount in etc?

my mechanic mate did the drivers side mount in 5 mins flat, so i thought i may aswell give the lower front one a shot, although their are a few black pipes in the way.

your help will be appreciated greatly if you can help me !

Get the jack under the motor, prefereably closest to the mount as possible don't lift the car just apply enough pressure to hold the motor when you take off the plate underneath, once the plate which the engine mount is bolted to is removed then remove the mount and replace :)

Not 100% sure about this, i have changed mounts on other cars never looked at the magna, so only if the mount is connected to the bash plate thing that runs underneath the motor...

Yeah sorry i wasn't more helpfull never done anything on a Magna but yeah have a good look at it and suss it out its not that hard and you gotta learn somehow, i didn't know how to replace a gearbox untill i did, if you know anything about mechanics most jobs even BIG ones can be done without ever doing it before :)

just take a jack and a block of wood and place i under ur oil pan closest to the mount. make sure u put the wood between the oil panand the jack otherwise ull dent the oil pan. now just jack it up about 3-5cms just enough to take the pressure of the mount, not to actually lift the motor or u could damags another mount. then just undo ur mount and swap it over with the replace ment . now bolt the new mount in and take the jack down and presto.

I did the lower front one not that long ago. If you have access to a hoist then that would be the best bet but if you only have ramps or car stands then it can be a right pain in the arse to do... As for a jack under the engine, believe it or not when i did the mount i did have a jack with an appropriate block of wood under the engine and when i was having difficulty removing the bolt from the mount i let a bit of pressure off the jack and guess what? The engine dropped about 2 mm and the bolt came free easily and the engine dropped no further! I would still recommend having the jack there just in case!

Anyway, the job took a mate and myself @ 1.5 hrs to do. Remembering that i had no idea of the correct sequence to do things but it did go back together a lot easier than it came apart! Best of luck with the job.... Expect to see a little blood because it is a tight fit down there and you will graze a knuckle!:D

yeah true that, it looks very tight under there.

But does anyone here know where i can download the relevent section from the workshop manual ? i would feel much more confident if i had access to that section, there is a website www.thehammer.net/magna where you can download the workshop manual, but i can't get it to work .... computer noob i am lol

all replies are appreciated !

The front and rear engine mounts dont actually support the engine and you can remove them without supporting the engines weight. The only reason they're there is to stop the engine from shaking from side to side while revving.

To replace your gonna have to jack the car up or use a hoist. Just remove the crossmember which is 2 17mm bolts and 3 14mm bolts and take the centre bolt out of the mount. The mount will come off with the crossmember. Should be easy enough to replace then. You may have to remove the splashshield before this.
