Gidday troops,
Left h/side front window on 2001 Magna Sports has carked it. Can hear the motor going, bit of graunching but no up and down movement.
Took the door trim off and it looks like the cable has undone itself from the drum - as it was dark, I couldn't be arsed trying to fix it - dropped it into a dodgy mechanic today, who calls me and says 'yeah mate, about $755 to fix' - new regulator plus a couple of hours labour.
I told him to bolt the b'stard back onto the rail and prep the invoice.
Is this a common fault? I have rung a wrecker to get a new regulator, but arn't convinced it's the problem.
Any advice?
Cheers - Mike

edit* it does sound like the regulator!
Dude i dont think the magna regs/motors are that expensive. and if you can take the door trim off, you can take a motor/reg out and replace it. find out how much new first, and then hit up mitsubishi for a new one. i know it is common for regs to go on TJ magnas (more common drivers side i think). I even think there was a recall on regulators at one stage

Had (have) the same problem with my 00 TJ Sports. Drivers side cable went under itself and frayed the cable, taking out the plastic wheel part in the process and ruining most everything else. Went to Mitsu and asked for the parts to replace and they then tell me that the design has changed and that none of the old stuff fits the new design. So basically I was up for everything to run the power windows in the driver side door minus the switches and the window itself. $317 for the new design parts.

go get a can of spray grease - white lithium is good - from Bunnings. Remove the door trim, peel back the plastic water shield and spray the grease on all the wheels and guides you can see. Has them back to speed in no time.

Yeh, my passenger side window is one lazy ass!
The other windows are fine and go up in no time, its just my left window and it takes ages.
I think it just does it to piss me off!
*Oh, look, its raining, wahaha, I'll take my hairy ass time, so that the car gets wet inside!*

Thanks all. Did some searching around this site and realised that it's a fairly common problem. Went to my local dealer and got the full regulator for about $240 - apparently there's not a hell of a lot of stock left of the full replacement kits. If they run out, you'll need to purchase all the bits seperatly (this could be lies - I have no idea!).
Took about 30mins to install, quite easy really.
Reason #162 that I hate mechanics - $750 for a $240 problem.

haha, i had a go at fixing a power window on an astra. used some bicycle gearshift/brake cable, wounded it up all nice n stuff, but it snapped :(
ended up in a garage in the end anyways.
If you have power windows and have also sound deadened your doors.....:bowrofl: :bowrofl: HAVE FUN!! lucky i have winders.
