had new plugs, fuel filter, gearbox flush and refill. now i'm starting to think its either timing or fuel pump. timing belt has been changed at sometime so one mite think it could be a tooth out. could anybody help please

Could be either one since you have done the others. Do what ever you think is easier rip off timming cover and check. See if you can get a fuel pressure guage fitted to check fuel pressure as well. All else fails compression test engine may be tired but i doubt it.

It can't be the timing belt, and if the fuel pump is struggling then you're engine will end up spluttering and conking out. Oh and fuel pump doesn't just go haywire as soon as it hits a hill. I assume you've tested it with a full tank of petrol anyway.

How are the condition of the fuel injectors? Tried getting a compression test done?

I had this with my MX5 - engine struggles under load, gets worse, looses power. Could also be some backfiring.

Change the HT leads - I'll be 90% that's the call.

Cheers - Mike

just incase it starts happening again have u thought about the sender unit in ur gas tank. it might be faulty and telling the computer theres no fuel when there is . anyways just food for thought
