View Full Version : Changing tranny fluid
Was just wondering, do we need to use genuine mitsubishi transmission fluid when we service the tranmissions?
Or could we just use Castrol tranny fluid, that is suitable with the car?
Stupid question, you can flame me if you want.

I'll recommed genuine mitsubishi transmission fluid.
i used to use some other fluid instead of mitsubishi genuine one, and the tranny start playing up.
end up getting mitsubishi to service to tranny for me and cost me about $260.
If u do a search, u'll definitely find treads about what tranny fluid to use.lol

I thought you read my thread on how to do the refill?
Is much cheaper to use Mits ATF than any brand anyway.

Yeh, I read it before, but was just wondering if we could use a tranmission fluid other than the genuine mitsi fluid.

Answer is yes. But read all other threads, most of them say other brands F up your transmission altogether so is it worth it?
Further more it is about 1/4 price cheaper to use Mitsubishi SP3 ATF. and you know is the recommended one for sure.
Just your 2 cents worth.
lol
I guess its settled then. I will use Castrol!
lol
j/k.
Dont worry, I'll be getting the genuine tranny fluid. Considering the amount of people saying that when they used other tranny fluid it ****ed up their transmission.
Thanks all!

Refill through the dipstick tube.
May be a bit difficult depending on what container you've got

Remember before anyone starts, I will just say that Auto shops do a through auto trans flush. Meaning better way of doing it. However you should use Original ATF to refill.
Cheers.

Yeh, I'll be getting it done at the mechanics, but I was just curious, if I should try castrol and not the genuine mitsi fluid.
So, yeh, I'll be buying the mitsi fluid and bringing it with me to the mechanics.

You should download the workshop manual at: http://www.lisho.net/
One you have this you will know what goes where. Also there is a lot of info about this in your owners manual in the glovebox.
