Hi guys did a search and couldnt find what i was looking for.
I have a TL VRX which has the double DIN "premium" factory head unit. Im looking to add an amp to power my replacement splits and 6x9's, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is possible using the stock h/u. If so how would you do it?
Also, is there a write up or guide on the actual removal of the h/u in a TL to have a squiz behind. I quite like the 6 stacker h/u mitsu installed, so replacing it would definately be a last resort.
Cheers,
Chris

I had a TL six stacker in mine for a while - you could amp them but there's no RCAs so its speaker level output only. Standard removal guide is here:

TL variation I'm not entirely sure about.

yeah if youve replaced the speakers, and are amping them through speaker level inputs it will be fine. and sound awsome.

Thanks for the replies.
Whats the process with speaker level inputs, im not familiar with the term. Also, the TL has different dash pieces to a TJ. Has anyone removed one before? Surely there would be a write up of some sort.

Remove the section around the gearstick first by lifting at the back. Once removed open the flap on the lower section of the centre console. With your hands inside you should be able to pull this piece out. You will have to use a fair bit of pressure but do it evenly and the clips will release. After this then the top secion will come out. You will have to take off the cable for the emergency lights on the right and remove the duct for the climate control on the left and the cabling to the climate control unit(two multistranded cables). There are some screws at the top and bottom of the bracket that holds the head unit in that you will have to undo.

Thanks for the guide. I know its a long shot, but any pics of some sort to go along with the description?
By the way, does anyone know what the standard H/u's rating is? Id imagine 4x30w ?

double-Din, no idea, i think the Stock single-Din version is like 4 x 20w. Sound quality is shocking. Replace unit, and notice a huge differance in quality straight away

The double din isnt that bad. Nothing like the standard one. Still there are improvements to be made. Sorry I dont have a camera, so its hard to do pictures. Just give it a go, its easy after doing it once and its a lot easier than TJ or earlier.

The double din premium headunit is actually very good quality, far superior to the single din in lower spec models. As with all headunits there are big gains to be had by adding a decent amplifier and quality speakers..........
Can you get one of those plastic insert things for a TL if you want to replace the dbl din head unit with a single din after market mp3 player?

Yeah they make aftermarkets ones, or Mitsubishi sell them as per the lower spec model Magna's.......
