I am looking into upgrading my front stock speakers.
I have read a bit that they should be 6" or 6.5" (which is a better option? In terms of size and fitting)
Looking into Pioneer or any not too fancy brand as I do not have an amp and will be running off a pioneer mp3 player unit. Budget is set at not more than $150 if possible as stated not really looking for speakers with amp required support.
So open to help in the audio section and suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

6.5 fit better, but 6 will fit (may need to make new holes for screws). As for which speaker, if ur not amping them then you'll find some nice speakers under $150. I have pioneer 6" and they sound fantastic.

So 6.5" fit straight in? Saves me the trouble of drilling more holes? Thanks for the advise.
Though if I do need to drill, one of the AMC members has volunteered to give me a hand.

If you have to drill dont be too scared, theres heaps of room to add more holes where needed. I'm guessin 6.5 fit straight in, as my 6" were about half an inch short for the screw holes.

Im only saying this becuase, well, i have them, but i got these for $98 (RRp $200)there is probably a newer spec model out (mine are the SRS1625's) so you should check out the clarion range.
They sound pretty good to my ears, nothing mind blowing, but they are very clear, Was recommened these but mitsi of course and for the money can't say a bad thing about em!

6.5" go straight in! I made new holes for mine anyway so I could get the cable lugs facing the bottom.

Thanks, will check them out as I love clear and clean. Will have a look if I can ever get them cheap.

Thanks for reassuring. More confident now to attempt to change my front speakers now.

Saw some Yellow Pioneer Speakers on Ebay going for $115 on the avg, how are these?
Was looking around and saw Kenwood speaker as well, a bit cheaper but not confident on sound quality, also saw some normal Sony ones which I read weren't that good. I still need to shop around more.

I'm pretty sure the yellow cone pioneers are the competition series and are suppose to be pretty good. I only have the blue coned ones which are amped but they sound pretty good :). Basically by just running the speakers off the headunit, you dont want anything too good as a lesser powered speaker will do the same job.

Entry level splits is where you want to go. High sensitivity and lower power handling will usually yield best results when running off the head Unit.
Tuffy's $98 clarions are good for this. but yes, anything that is reasonably cheap or on sale is a good port of call if only running of the HU.
If it was to be amped, even say in 12 months time, then I would suggest a better pair of splits. Say something more like JBL's for $220, JL Audio, Audiobahn, that sort of thing - higher power rating, slightly less sensitivity.
If you like your sound, spend an extra $100 and get brands like Vibe, Diamond, MB Quart, Hertz.

Thanks guys point noted on all.
I am still shopping and yeah not yet had plans to put an amp for the moment so was asking if those Yellow Pioneer's were any good at all.
M4DDOG, I saw mostly the Pioneer blues ones in JB HIfi, and were about $130-$150 but they had 3 way or 4 way speakers. I am not an Audio man here so you hardly see me hanging around this section.
MitsiMonsta, thanks for giving more input helps me to learn and know more about all these audio stuff.
I will still look around before buying as I can bare with the stock sound atm.
Cheers! More input or recommendations is appreciated.

Those Pioneer's are okay. If buying new, I believe that better speakers can be had for the same or less money. If buying secondhand (especially off CAA), you can't be 100% sure of their condition, they may have been clipped/overdriven, or otherwise mistreated.
That said, the price isn't too bad. They used to be about $400 new IIRC (and vastly overpriced, you can get Focal 165V2's for that money).
Of course, dont forget to install them properly on MDF baffles, rip out those god-awful plastic things that MMAL saw fit to put in (yuk) and make some new ones out of 12mm MDF, same size and shape. Also, make sure you do some deadening, at least liquid deadener on the inside of your door trims, and a foam diffuser behind the mid-bass driver. There's heaps of threads how to do it properly on here, do a search.

Sounds like a new project:cool:
Can I get MDF out from these audio stores or does super cheap have them?
Didn't realised there was much to do but since if I want to do it, must well do it right.
Thanks guys.

You can get premade MDF rings from autobarn, and JBHI-FI, and cost about $15 a pair, but you can get a sheet (usually 1200cm x 2400cm) of 18mm MDf for about $50.....so you'd have a bit spare to play around with, make boxes etc.
Super cheap afaik don't stock them, only the plastic ones

Bunnings have all the mdf you need, dont think audio stores sell mdf apart from spacers.
But i think mdf is overkill if you only plan on running them off the hu, they wont be putting out enough bass to really warrant the effort. But i'm lazy so you might be arsed to do it lol. Those yellow cone pioneers are good (but overpriced yes), but at $110 you cant go wrong, i paid $90 for my blue cones brand new at strathfield.

I think you can get the jaycar splits for about $150 aswell ?
And yeah, if your only running them off the HU i wouldnt bother about SDing etc, UNLESS you do have plans to run them off an amp, in that case, do it now, take your time, do it properly, so that they are ready to be amped.
dont waste your money on brownbread as well (cheap Jaycar sound deadning) cost me $70 to do both doors but now i think of it i should of gone dynamat....just Listen to Mitsi, magna, And timmy and you should be fine!

Just bought some pioneers 3 way 220W speakers for my front. Used the threads here to learn how to remove door trim and managed to install my speakers.
Didn't bother with buying the Yellow pioneers as since I am not running off any amp.
Thanks a bunch guys!

I bought Pioneer TS-A1671S 220W 3 way speakers @ $92.00 good enough for me, since not going to amp in my audio car. Will be looking at the rears probably later.
