You checked the level on your auto tranny dipstick ? I got no idea why changing engine oil would affect your auto but revving to 4500 before getting any joy definately sounds like a lack of or severely burnt tranny oil.

Thats means you didnt flush old oil out either and you have to drain out everything again.
As its funny and is not. Please get the following

Filter funnel for your ATF. Get ATF SP3 from Mits

New Engine oil and check which oil filter you did. it should be the bottom one. Is always the sump with the filter just beside it.

SHEEZE mate hope the cars ok thats nasty, i assume he didnt put engine oil in the tranny as the engine oil refil cap is obvious so i assume you now have DOUBLE the amount of required oil in the motor, not to mention mixed old and new and nothing in the tranny, ouch hope you didn't drive too far

Well you learn from your mistakes, wont happen again :D

Nah i drove ma sis car to mitsu, cried my lil ass off, got new tranny fluid, filled up tranny to the tippy top ( of the level, not the top of the dipstick...).

My engine took 4 litres of oil anyway and was only just over the max mark on the dipstick, as in it was less than a litre over, it drained off two litres and filled it up with new stuff.

So today my car has had, 1 new oil filter, 6 litres of tranny fluid, and 6litres of Castrol gt3( even though 4.5 litres is its max :S) and ive decided that in futre im gonna just pay the nice mechanic and if he gets my lovely engine all dirty, wash it.

Just Curious, was this your first doing it yourself?

Dont let one F up make you give up easily, we learn from mistakes.

dude if this was my first f up i'd be proud! actually it was dropping a spanner on the battery in my old car...

Yes this is the first time i changed the oil and stuff and i just never thought about the tranny as i've always had manual cars before where u couldnt do it. Plus why do mitsu put that big bolt right infront of you and hide the engine one behind the sump????

Yeah man seriously you learn from there and move on. At least you wont waste money and you be more cautious the next time round. You find that its worth it and you save heaps.

I was lucky to be cautious as I know this was an Auto car and the transmission fluid is normally on the passenger side in most cars.

Don't worry about it. At least you learned something today. and gave us a good laugh too.

Just out of curiosity, did it weld itself to the terminals?

Dont feel bad mate, dad wanted to change the gearbox oil in our old gemini but didn't specify that, simply telling me to get under the car and 'take the lowest nut out'. Long story short, the sump plug is lower than the gearbox plug, engine takes 4 litres of oil and I had a 2 litre bucket

bahahahahah rofl, sorry mate that is quite funny though, and so so , so, ironic. Good ol modern ingenuity, lol. At least you didn't break anything.

but still, it was so obvious what was causing your car not to move, yet no one figured it out, myself included.

good luck with future mods

i'd recommend downloading the workshop manual, which will give you step by step instructions with illustrations on how to maintain your car .

later:bowrofl:

rofl!

Didnt you get a little suspicious when red oil was coming out of the sump ? Glad its working again lol.

Atleast you didnt **** up the tranny like me and my bro did on his VN. I dont think we installed the filter in properly it didnt really click in and sits a little lower than its meant to. (if you've done a VN's tranny you know what im talking about)

Traveliing at around 100kph, the tranny just hunts gears

That was a really nasty job too.

Gold.. you really are a mess.. Maybe you should leave it to the Mechanics..:P

Mechanics are for fags!

The tranny fluid was black when it came out, certainly darker than the new oil i was putting in so i didnt see any problem, hey at least i figured it out and could sort the problem, plus i'll never make it agin, even with all my **** ups it was still a hell of alot cheaper than getting a mechanic to do it.

If you have broadband you will love this. Complete service manual.

http://aocn.net/files/downloads/apps/mitsu.tar.gz

you will need a program called winrar to unpack it
then you simply view it through nero, as it is a nero disc image. Or you can just burn in to a cd as an image and view it that way.

enjoy

My biggest F up with fixing cars was, changing the head on my ol 90 Pulsar Q,

i had the head of and everything else basically, i had the gearbox ventilation pipe off as it was in the way, for the whole exercise i had all the holes plugged up with plastic bags to stop **** going where it shouldnt.

I started putting it all back together so i took all the plastic bags out and then started bolting it back together, i managed to drop a small bolt, 30mm x 10mm, and of all places it managed to go through the whole for the gearbox ventilation pipe, a hole around the size of a 50c peice, and it landed threaded bit up standing on a little ledge On the inside of my Manual gearbox.

After pondering the situation i decided the best option would be to make a little lasso.
so i got some fencing wire and bent it straight about 1m long and made a little loop in the end of it, and then got some fishing line, and made a lasso like the snake handlers use.

I managed to get it down into the whole secure it around the bolt and retreive it out of the gearbox. I was so proud of myself. If it went further in i would have been taking the gearbox out and apart to get this ***en bolt out.

So glad i didnt have to do that.

My 2 Cents

Peace

^^

When i had my commie, i had to replace the dizzy so i pulled it out and some how droped a nut down the hole. I this magnetic extender thing and somehow the head got stuck inside and it also fell it.

I thought ****it and just put the new dizzy in. Luckily the car was fine and them bits must have just fell in the sump.

Well i did blow the slave piston out of my rear calipers showing me in burny, burny brake fluid causing me to run round my front lawn screaming obscenities, much to the amusement of my neighbours.

But thats a whole different story

got the workshop manual....hah gonna break my car good now :D

You do mean you couldn't do it because of difficulty right? Manual gearboxes use oil too... How many people change their transmission oil every year (yuck) or more reasonably two years?...

I know some people have never got it changed, its not usually something done at a service unless its asked for or the mechanic's switched on and wants to make those few extra dollars in labour...?
