Iv'e got a set of ralliart cams and want to fit them in my TH, just want to know who has fitted them and did you get your car tuned straight away or did you run the car on the standard tune.

I fitted a set of prototype ralliart cams in to my old motor back in early 2001 (yes b4 the ralliart was released) and didnt get the ecu remapped until i did the heads and compression about 6months later. It ran fine on the standard tune, due to the magnas running rich from factory anyway. Hope that helps. :)

How much of a performance gain was there with no ECU change?

Around about 5kws@wheels, we did it as a trial to see how ralliart cams went with standard ecu before i did too many other mods (only other mods to the car at that time was ralliart development headers with standard cat and ralliart exhaust).

Wonder how the cams and stock ECU will cope with that crazy manifold that's going on with it

It shouldnt be too bad for a short time but to get the most out of the manifold and cams, a repmapping of the ECU would be benifical.

I ran my old motor with head work, bigger prototype cams, higher compression, pacemaker header and hi flow cat on the standard ECU for a few months, i just didnt rev it out above 5000rpm incase of lean out. :)

thanks for all the info jason, i will change the the plugs and leads at the same time and are wondering what are you using and why?

Im using NGK iridium plugs (NGK number BKR6EIX-11) these are same heat range as the 3L and the ralliarts use but are iridium instead of the standard copper front plugs and platinum rear plugs that come from the factory. The 3.5L user a warmer range spark plug.

For sparkplug leads im using 9.9mm top gun leads.

TH timing (see below) is very different to the TJs. Has anyone done this with a TH not a TJ? I would be careful. Good luck

Valve timing Intake valve Opens (BTDC) 9
Closes (ABDC) 59
Exhaust valve Opens (BBDC) 47
Closes (ATDC) 21
Valve overlap 19
Intake valve duration 248
Exhaust valve duration 248

TJ
Valve timing Intake valve Opens (BTDC) 13
Closes (ABDC) 55
Exhaust valve Opens (BBDC) 51
Closes (ATDC) 17
Valve overlap 6G72 30
Intake valve duration 248
Exhaust valve duration 248

Ralliart
Valve timing Intake valve Opens (BTDC) 13
Closes (ABDC) 55
Exhaust valve Opens (BBDC) 51
Closes (ATDC) 17
Valve overlap 30
Intake valve duration 248
Exhaust valve duration 248

Yes in my first post i stated that i had fitted TJ ralliart prototype cams to my TH sports and also for your info and others the very last of the TH models were fitted with the better number 6 camshafts (instead of number 4), which are TJ units. :)

It is valve over lap/timing u have mentioned above, when u fit aftermarket (RPW or any other brand) cams, they will have different valve overlap/timing than stock anyway.

The reason the TJ 3.5 ran different valve overlap/timing to the early TH's was to get a bit more power but the main reason was to improve fuel economy and meet the new emission laws.

Hope that helps answer your question :)

ralliart cams can go right in pretty much ... some ppl will say otherwise but put it this way ..... u can by rpw stage 1 cams with are more agressive and still run them on standard ecu ... so ralliart cams r a breeze ...

i think ralliart cams retail for about 600 bucks rrp
