Does anyone here see the similarity? I have owned a couple of Leylands in my time and just the other day i noticed the back of a 380 and thought to myself, gee that looks familiar... What do you think?

I think out of all the cars the 380 has been compared to this looks the least like it lol

The only thing similar is that they both have a line contiuned from the bottom edge of the windows, to the boot. Apart from that they're completely different.
Now if they had the same shape lights in the same place then ild be saying "wow mitsubishi so copied them  "

Nowhere near the same...

The rear of an EH Sedan looks closer than that

My dad had a 1974 4.4litre V8, 4spd manual P76, until a couple of years ago. Had it since 75.

Great towing vehicle, stick ugly. Guess what? it has a Chrysler connection (bit like Sigmas were sold as Chrysler first, in 70s). The gearbox, clutch and brakes were supplied by the same mob who supplied Chrysler Valiants and Regals of the mid 70s. In fact, when spares became a bit hard to get for the P76, Dad approached Chrysler dealers and the like.

I drove it a few times. It went OK.

My Dad had a couple of P76s too. He always raved about them. But seriously, don't start comparing the 380 to the P76, we all know what a huge success the P76 was. I don't want to see the 380 awards in the newspapers in 20 years time.

Yep!:D I have had a couple of Leylands im my time and it just struck me one day how similar ( in my eyes!) the rear styling was. If you look at them both side on they share the same wedge styling as well! And no, im not on the hammer!

Its true that the P76 was way ahead of the very plain pedestrian Falcon and Kingswood of the time.. with the high rear, low front wedge shape.... No frikin vent windows.. (quarter vents?) built into the front windows... heaps of room.. huge boot.

The V8 put out about 130kw stock. Which for a 4.4 litre all aluminium small block was not too shabby. In 1974. A stock holden 5.0 litre put out only 145kw. A Holden six of the 3.3 litre variety put out about 80kw stock. ;)

Cos it was alloy, and cos it was light.. it went well in ski boats.. (alloy doesn't rust). I heard of it being modded to get nearly 190kw.

In 1974 the E49 charger put out 302hp lol

The 4.4 V8 put out 144 kw standard (192 bhp) and the 2.6 litre OHC six put out 91 kw (121 bhp). you have to remember as well that a V8 P76 weighed @ 1275 kg with a manual box so the power to weight ratio was excellent. My TF V6 manual weighs 1520 kg (weigh bridge verified) One of my old P's was a V8 4 speed (the same gearbox that was used in E49 Chargers right down to the bearings!) with a Holley 450, high comp pistons, big cam and a twin system. I tell you that car moved! It wiped many a smart arse smile off the face of people who dared to mock the "P":D

Sorry, I can't see the connection between the P76 and the 380 at all. They are quite opposites really other then the positioning of the number plate and that line that is across the centre of the boot.

The interior of the 380 and the P76 is VERY similar though lol
I just wonder if the P76 had MP3 six stack and even ABS brakes. Never know, it seems quite ahead of the Holden's and Ford's of its time especially in terms of engine output.
