I was driving home the other night when i slammed on the brakes to miss a dog on the road. No big drama's at all. Missed the dog.
Vaccumed the car tonight and noticed that the seat belt now has this red tag on it saying that if you can read this then the seat belt needs to be replaced. It has pulled the belt out of the holder down the bottom of seat a bit exposing this red tag.
Anyone else come accross this before and if so, do i need to sell the house to pay for a new belt?
Seems strange that one hard brake could wreck the seat belt.

check the black cover hasnt sagged. pull the bottom bit away from the bolt and slide it up the belt to see the webbing if its pulled or not.

Man both of my front seats has the red tags exposed.. Took it to Mitsubishi under warranty, they said the black plastic sleeve comes loose and slips down exposing the tag... They told me you would need extreme force from an accident to loosen the belts.. My car hasn't been in any accidents so far

that little black thing on the seatbelt is usually an indicator of the need for a new seatbelt aswell as it pops off throug the force when it is stretched or whatever, well thats what the guy on my defensive driving course told me

My car hasn't been in any accidents, so there is no force why the red tags are showing on mine.. Mitsu told me it is common for the 3rd gens plastic sleeve to drop, exposing the tag... Took the sleeve off my belts today and checked them, all the webbing and stitching is fine.. Just pulled the plastic sleeve back up again

Both my TJ's have all the red tags exposed slightly - and neither have been in anything close to an impact (or even excessivly hard braking). So yeah, I'd say it's common.

I remember S#@ting myself when I saw those dreaded red tags. Was very happy when the black cover slid up again. When I asked Mitsu how much to replace a belt they quoted me $400 each!!
