Well, I'm decking out my boot and am up too the stage of trying to choose the best sub and amp for it. Looking to spend $500 on both although this can be streched.
I'm currently looking at ;
MTX 12 Inch 500 Watt Subwoofer
Sony 12" PENTAGON ALUMINIUM 1400W
Pioneer TS-W306C 12" 1000W
Also thinking about Fusion although the price may be a problem, looked at the Jonah 12" and matching amp and was 1100, any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

IMO there are much better subs for similar money out there than all of those 3, so I would strongly suggest grabbing your favourite CD and heading to several different shops and having a listen.
For the same budget (+/- $250) I would suggest listening to:
Boston "Generator" 12"
Diamond M312 (could be a little out of your price range, a tad above $300 from memory)
Digital Designs 1012 - One of the best value for $ subs on the market IMO
Herts Energy series of 12" subs
Image Dynamics ID12 (again could be abit out of your price range at around $350 rrp)
OZ Audio Vector series - I have'nt had a chance to listen to these ones yet though they are getting good reviews on their other more mid level products
Vibe Black Air 12
Most of your general shops (JB, Strathfield etc etc) probably won't have any of these brands for you to listen to, so head into your local specialist audio shop and see what they've got.
Of the ones you mentioned the MTX would be the one I would go for if I only had the choice of those three.
Cheers,
Matt
edit bit: Same could be said for the Fusion package, there are plenty of other options that are a better combo for similar money.

Yep, Hertz Energy Series are good.
IDQ12 is another great one.
Boston is one of my faves. The G2's are very good, but lack a little in the power handling department. I know of many that were overcooked by people getting too eager with the gains.....
I actually like the Vibe Blackair 12", they are quite a refined sound and a beautiful looking cone. I'd prefer two for more volume. Dee had one in her car and it provided that low-end extension that the splits & 6x9's didn't have, without booming over them. Certainly not for the doof heads, although they can go loud in the right enclosure (VENTED - Get Marty or someone else who knows what they are doing to build you one)
I have heard those Treo's too... you may not know the name but they are a VERY good sub. Gaining alot of kudos around the place.
BTW Marty, you ain't stoopid. I'll drop past Fri/Sat to see you most likely. Got some buying to do.

As MitsiMonsta said with the Vibe, they are very nice. If you want nice sound then one in a sealed box is great, you want boom and get one in a genuine Vibe box ( thats what they do best!! ).
And what are you buying MitsiMonsta? Getting rid of the JBL's?
I think it is time to sell the G5 and move to something louder, the Hertz HXS 380 seems like the best option :D

Sorry Charisma, no I am not getting rid of the JBL's just yet. I have some accessory buying to do.... fused distro blocks, battery terminals, bit extra power wiring and speaker wiring possibly, some liquid deadener.....and maybe a CAASQ reference disc also.
I still need to install my 0guage and RCA's, so I had better get to it once i get my final bits I require. Also need to get the Audiobahn splits in unless someone wants to offer me a decent price for them......
That HXS would be a nice choice, but do you really want a 15 in your boot? I still think 2x12's is a much much better idea. You'd also need a crapload more power... like a 2kW monoblock!

lol yeah I just though that I would check. That is the problem when you dont do everything at once there are those little annoying things that you have to fix up.
0ga wiring dam!! Now that is fat!!!
Reference disc are supposed to be good, you should let us know how it goes.
They will run off 1kw happily, I like the idea of the single 15 as it only needs a 50litre ported box. I could run two of them and they would cost less and take up less room then 2x 12inch G5's in ported enclosures. 101db sensitivity wired in series.. yes please.

the Venom subs are from Jaycar and everything else is from strathfield
the avalance amp was a cheaper class of amp but they have discontinued them that might be why you haven't seen them
jensen is a brand that sthrathfield has recently introduced

I dunno what model it was, but the Treo 10" is an insane sub! Was one from one of their show cars I think. Anyway, from the 3 you mentioned i'd go the mtx, it's obvious you've only been looking in strathfeild, jb etc. try some specialist audio places to get some real advice :)
