Jorre, we'd need some exact model numbers before we could even try to find some Thiele/Small Parameters for such a driver. Due to their age, they may not be available on Kicker's website.

However, I would assume that if they are in good condition, that is it has no burnt areas on the voice coils, the spider and rubber surround is in good nick, and no other obvious faults (tinsel leads - those silver wires going into the speaker still look okay, Cones - no gouges or holes), then you could look at putting 300 clean RMS watts behind it, with gains set at 1/4 of full, and go up from there. They are probably rated around 250WRMS.

Due to the subs age, I would say that a sealed box will help sound quality if it has been abused a bit. A ported enclosure will sound horrible if there is any damage. Calculate 1 cubic foot box volume per 12" sub, and best to have two separate airtight chambers too.

That's the safest recipe for a 12" sub (or subs) if T/S figure are unknown.

BTW, just before you throw these speakers on the amp, hit the speaker terminals with a multimeter and measure the resistance of the voice coils. A single voice coil sub should read between 3.5 and 4 ohms resistance. That would indicate a healthy sub.

As for if they are any good, Kicker Comp's rate about the same as JBL in my eyes, a good solid speaker with good performance and doesn't break the bank. They are a bit mass market though, you could spend another $50-80/sub new and get something in a different league. Kicker Solobarics are another kettle of fish altogether.

the kicker quare ones are the best especially L7..but if they are 6 years old then they cannot be L7 or L5...the will the regular circular subs which are not that great...

The square ones = Solobarics

Hella good to get loud those things. Not the greatest SQ however.

Which is a real shame because the old round solo-barics (especially the S12c) were absolutely fantastic subwoofers for SQ. Then they decided to make them to suit SPL applications. :(
