Hi all,
After installing subs, I'm sure we are all familiar with the dreaded mirror rattle caused by the exertion of pounding subwoofers.
I am sick of having to turn down my system, or hold my bloody mirror everytime I wanna listen to a track without crap rattles.
So this is my attempt to solve this problem.
After prying open the two piece mirror with a small flat head screw driver, I removed the internal mirror, then unbolted the single bolt holding mirror to the bracket.
Here is the mirror disassembled (1)
I then went down to supercheap and bought a small can of body deadener and clear silicone. (2)
I started by filling the back part of the mirror with body deadener. (3)
This is the back part complete: (4)
I then proceeded to then fill the outer edge of the front fascia with the silicone to prevent the mirror from rattling against it. (5)
Once it all dries, I'll be putting it back together tomorrow and installing it back again.
I can't wait to see if it works! Can't wait to tell everyone if it works!
What do u all think?

mate if that doesnt help, get as much foam as you can and JAM it tight in there..
I did this to fill in the backside of the boot garnish (where all the metal holes are on the inside) and it soaks up quite alot of bass
That body deadner s**t comes in handy for so many use's, you'll soon find your going to be buying the 4L!

I bloody hope so! The more i think about it, the more i'm confident it will work!
Boot is next!
Found the same stuff in spray on... Thinking about using that for my door lining.

But works out way cheaper if you buy the 4L can...which is $40..
4 x 400g cans would be $40 so yeah:P
with 4 litres i did front and rear door trims, front outer door, bootlid, and various bit's n pieces.

lol what sh!ts me the most about the mirror rattling, is that you can hear it vibrating against the windscreen on the outside of the car! Sounds horrible.

the deadening should work for the mirror but the whole mirror assembly is still gonna move round where the bracket attaches to the glass

Well, Mirror vibrates a little less, but there is still i slight rattle on particular frequencies!
I would change the mirror, buts it a verada one with auto-dimmer...
I'll get it... Eventually.
stay tuned.

You will find that vibration is normal but rattle isnt.. Most of the time it comes loose where is mounts to the window through age.. tried fixing mine then broke it..:(
Was expecting it to be between $180-200 dollars.. i got it for $39...:P

is it possible to use a 2nd gen mirror in a 3rd gen?
Seeing as the middle of the roof is the same (for the interior lights) there might be the holes there for a mirror?
Cause our's screws into the roof and doesnt rattle at all.
Just a thought???

Being that he has a verada, the front part of the roof is already occupied by interior lighting anyway.

stimulate fixed my rattles using a special technical method of shoving bits of paper/cardboard between the glass and the mounting plastic bits.....
works perfect.
dunno why ur going to all this trouble......:D

Hmmm I have a week off work soon and I will have a good look at this as my mirror since the G5 is in the ported box goes nuts, you play anything with bass and the mirror goes limp :doubt:

Has anyone got a definitive fix for this dreaded mirror rattle? I seem to have it on the plastic bit of the mirror. I own a 3rd gen TJ series 2 VR-X. I thought I had it sussed when I removed the mirror. The rattle seem to stop for a while but now it has come back with vengeance. I've tried the blu-tac method and I have to say it hasn't worked for me. I'm thinking of silicon the ball plastic ball joint on the mirror, does anyone think this will work?
My mirror shakes but does not rattle - I must be the only 3rd gen member with this hahaha maybe my bass just aint strong enough.......hrm......

What model 3rd gen do you have? Mine shakes a fair bit but never rattled either, its a TH on thing I'm pretty sure.

I dont know if its the same problem for everyone but thats what caused mine to fail.

When onky posted this he applied this method to an auto tint mirror, he has a KH verada standard with one. Its got to do with the way the mirror is mounted TH on, not so much the mirror itself.

Righto, well my chronic rattle happened to stop when I fitted my photochromatic mirror to my car.
