I whent down to the video library and i noticed the clutch felt REALLY strange. I couldnt feel the friction point at all but it whent into gear fine. As i was driving, each time i needed to change gear, it would crunch pretty bad.

When i was coming back, it was getting worse and then it just wouldnt want to get into gear  it kept grinding when i tried. The only way i could get it into gear is by double clutching so could my synchro's be dead ?

How much is it going to cost me to get it fixed ?

Ya sure it aint just ya clutch.

Try draining the gearbox oil and see what comes out. As long as it dont smell too burnt and no chunks O metal come out it probly aint too bad.:D

OK, will do that.

Never changed the oil in a Manual tranny. Where abouts is the plug and where do i re fill it from ?

Would i need to change anything else ? (gasket, filter etc..) Just asking so i can buy it all at once.

I've just spent the last hour or so reading the TP and TM factory manuals, and bugger me if neither of them tells you where to put the fluid in.

They say "refill the transaxle with the correct fluid" and thats listed in the specs but nowhere does it actually say where you put it in.

I'd be guessing but I'd be inclined to use the speedo drive gear hole and put in the measured amount, but, thats just a guess. How stupid is the manual. Sorry guy. :)

Must be in the service manual, how else did we figure it out in our manual conversion :P

To drain the oil, its the plug on the bottom of the transaxle that has a larger head than the others. From memory, it could also be the bottommost bolt.

Now to refill it, one of the bolts towards the front of the transaxle is both the refill hole and the level check hole. Honestly, I can't remember which bolt it is, but it must be in the manual somewhere!

You'll definitely need a funnel to pour the gearbox oil in through that hole (once you remove the bolt). Basically refill until it starts overflowing. Basically you need to fill the gearbox until the oil is filled to the bottom of the filler hole (as to why you basically fill it up until it overflows).

Yeah the changing of transmission fluid is largely a neglected thing, some people will insist changing the engine oil every 5,000 regardless and yet never change the transmission fluid, or change it only every 6 yrs...

Have you checked the level of your clutch fluid? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the clutch slave cylinder. The level of your clutch fluid (and brake fluid) should never change unless you got a leak somewhere. The fluid should also be clean, if its black its either never been changed (and you're probably up for a new master and slave cylinder) or a seal has gone somewhere. The fluid should be changed every year, unless its Super Dot 4 (a good ones Nulon, and cost like a dollar more than Dot 4), where you could get away with 2 years. This fluid is also a clear yellow colour so any problems in the system in terms of sealing or certain types of wear can be seen.

I'd either recommend using Penrite Manual Gear Oil 80, or Manual Gear Oil 75 mixed with 'Morey's Oil Stabiliser'. The recommended oil is the Manual 80, but 75 can be used if you use the stabiliser with it in a 25 percent mixture. I originally changed the oil to Castrol but when cold it was hard to shift and it did crunch occasionally. With the Penrite Manual Gear Oil 75 (which is Syn fortified) mixed with Morey's Oil Stabiliser the shifting is now smooth even from cold and now it never crunches :)

I was so happy with the gear oil I changed over to Penrite HPR 15 for the engine which I've stated on another post and the engines run a lot better now too, I have had Mobil and Valvoline in the past but with those I burnt a bit of oil which I don't now and its a lot smoother...

Anyway I hope its nothing serious!

There is filler& oil level plug in the front of TN manual gearbox, use 17MM ring or socket.

i highly suggest not doing it magna buffs way, as you are ment to fill it up till it starts dribbling out of the filler hole, im fairly sure ^^ says that as well

its your cluch
master or slave???

do the easy stuff before you get into the dirty stuff.

Although changing the oil in your box (or mine) would probably be a good thing

Ill do it today just going to go through some of the gearbox threads and have a read. I hope its just the oil. Right after buying the supercharger, this happens :doubt:

I had same problem with a rounded filler plug, ended having to weld a ring spanner on it and belting it loose with a hammer

Still check that stuff out with the clutch first! :) Although even if it is the clutch the gearbox oil probably needs changing anyway... Whats the good oil and fluid all add up to? $30 or something! lol
