Hi All,
First time post on this forum and just to let you all know I just picked up a 380 VRX. Colour is Electric Blue (I think Mitsu calls it "electro"), dealer lowered it about an inch and also put on a set of 20" Chrome rims. To say it looks the goods is an understatement. Some may say its all "Bling" but I think they colour and wheel package is all class (this is coming from a 40yr old lol ) Once I fugure out how to post some pics I will certainly do so if anybody can give me some guidance.
My previous ride was a 2001 VX SS Commodore which was a very fine and much loved example, putting out 232kw at the rear wheels, standing quarter mile 12.885@110.27. It was time to retire the girl for something a little more comfortable and reliable and I couldnt have made a better choice.
The 380 is a fantastic vehicle and deserves much more praise from our motoring magazines than it has received (especialy the latest wheels mag which rates it 4th out of the 6 family 6's it tested. Im tired of the bias towards ford and holden and thats after owning a holden for the past 5 years. The dynamics and handling of this vehicle put it into a class of its own and what it lacks in my old girls sheer straight line grunt it more than makes up in its handling and braking.
One very happy customer.

Hey man, welcome to the forum. Good choice on getting the 380, I'll think you'll find in a few months that the Mitsubishi brand will have alot more respect and sales will really rocket. May I ask, what was you main reason from going from the Commodore? Was it reliablility or petrol consumption or something else? I ask this in curiousity as my mum is also a past Holden owner who went from a VX Calais (GenIII) to a Verada which was due to reliability problems (gearbox x2), A/C problems (compressor) and generally average build quality. We moved to Mitsu in 2003 and havn't been dissapointed one bit, the only thing we have had replaced on our Verada (which has now done 173,000km) is the rear shockies and that's it. They even replaced the antenna after warranty (it was out by 4,000km).

Yeah, I'm also a regular reader of Wheels and seen this article as well. It is really aload of crap. The cars they put it up were not base model (none of them were!) like the 380 and if they were to do that review with the SII automatic 380VRX (which is $38,990) I wouldn't be suprised if it came 1st or 2nd. Which would be a better comparison as it is further similar in price with the Commodore Acclaim, Maxima ST-L and Falcon Futura.
I might write into them about this one as I think the test was a bit rigged considering NONE of the other manufacturers' cars are base models. If the use the SII 380VRX it should atleast be ahead of the Acclaim considering it has Leather and other nifty features (colour screen, ECM mirror, 6 stack). I'm also suprised the V6 Sonata Elite rated 6th as I thought it was meant to be an excellent car with ESP, curtain airbags and a decent engine (gearbox isn't the best I hear), but still I would class it better then the CURRENT commodore and Camry.
When you look at the 380 it does lack some things though, mainly ESP and BA which only the Camry and Futura doesn't have in comparison. If they tested the 380VRX against the Futura they would have an equal array of active safety features.
I think you'll find MMAL will make a profit for the finanical year of 2006 and with that money they'll invest in things like curtain airbags and more powerful engines (and a 4 cylinder engine) which should be available March 2007 at the latest. I just hope they add ESP as well. If they do then the 380 will have just about enough kit to keep it stable till the end of '08 and at the same time they should work on the interior to revise it for early mid '07.

And you can take it further by the fact that Wheels consider themselves to be a publication that rates performance and driveability as top aspects of cars, yet VZ Commondork gets ahead of 380. In fact their last few issues have been disgraceful:mad:. Very disappointing.
Edit: Back in September base model 380's interior had a "quite classy and upmarket ambience". Now it's "depressingly conservative".
I've already written a lengthy letter to them (tried hard not to blast them!) explaining how the world works and so on. Yeah definetly write into them - the more the greater impact we may have:). Just make it appear as though it is written by someone of substance, that's what I did.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to write into them. What really really annoyed me about this article is that they'd changed their opinion on the 380 and all of the other vehicle's that they'd compared it to were all available this time last year. But what made me think wtf was the fact that the 380 is the only base model car in the whole comparison. In the letter I will state to Wheels that they should 're-do' that test using the BF XT, Camry Altise, Maxima ST, Commodore Exec (the Sonata can stay in luxury variant due to the fact it's already $5k cheaper then the rest). Or otherwise apologise to readers in the next issue, say the test was bias as it was not a 'level playing field' by using the SII 380VRX or even just the SI 380LS model.
Don't worry I'll write it perfect as well. I'll be happy if I get a response, but, if I find it published in the next month's issue it's a bonus :D .
