Hi there ... new to here. Need some help as my 1991 tp Magna wont start.
I have already checked the starter and its fine. I've got power, so its not the battery. And I have checked all connectors, cleaned them etc. When I turn the key, I hear a click/clunk, but it doesnt even try to turn the engine. I'm gonna try to re-wire the starter switch -> ignition, but not sure if that will do the trick. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Has anyone else had this problem?

It could be a faulty relay... Have you checked the relays and fuses inside the engine bay?...

the starter solenoid or the starter
get it checked out or replaced

Yep thats what it sounds like to me, the starter solenoid is throwing the pinion out(the clunk sound) but no cranking, try putting a volt meter on the battery when you try to start it, if the voltage doesnt drop significantly then the solenoid main power connections are probably eroded away, meaning that the starter itself isn't seeing battery current and if you do get a big current drop then the problem will lie deeper within the starter motor, stator or brushes. Most likely to be a solenoid contact issue tho, shouldn't cost much to get fixed if you remove it yourself.

Yup, get a long screwdriver and ask someone to try and start the car while you jab the starter motor with the screwdriver/metal pole.

Could be the battery, but most likely the starter. TP starter motor on a manual gets a bit of a hard life - replaced mine with a unit from the wreckers at 195,000 Km. Injected motors are easier on the starter as they start easier (less cranking).

First
make sure you have a fully charge battery

borrow one from a car that is going.

That stuffed me up on my TN for a couple of days, I thought (incorrectly) that my battery was charged
