View Full Version : Letter box Grille
Yo,
After doing it on a weekend and having it sit around my room for a couple of weeks getting all cracked and damaged, i fixed it up, sent it to a painter and collected it at 8pm last night - still not fully dried. lol . Came home only to find it had a tiny knick in the paint from where it hit something in the car :'( . But barley noticable - i think, will get it touched up later. Anyway... im not sure if ill keep the logo on there.. i just temporarily put it up there to see what it looks like, and i dont really like it.. its far too big, so ill try to source out a smaller logo and see if that looks any better.
Anyway... Step by step shots of it in progress... and tell me what u think.. and should i keep the diamond logo or not?!. Thanks.

So far so good.
I would keep a smallish logo. Be proud to drive a mitsi! hehe
Besides, it looks big and empty without the logo in the middle. But it still depends on how you're filling in the middle.
ummmm gimmie 2 sec to resize some of those.. lol. If i could even post the 2nd post without u nazi's replying already.. hehe.
i think.. with the logo... the car looks really 2nd genish. :S

Looks way better with the logo. Looks good for that style definately. Some people prefer that style (like dvs) and some prefer the nose. But for that style of grille it looks fantastic.

Keep the emblem I'd say, otherwise it looks a little....bare :P
Just straighten up the badge though, it looks a little wonky from the pics.
Maybe a smaller badge would look neater, but i'd need to see it in person to make that final judgement.

hrmm.. i duno.. im kinda confused... i think it looks great bare cause its a dark car, and really gives the car that fat, squashed, slop on the ground look. Ill source a smaller logo out as thats what i intended. Oh, and i will straighten it up, i just didnt affix it permentaly. i just stuck it on witha tiny bit of the sticker tape hehe.
 but yer.. not sure.

this is just a thought but try a huge logo, like a TL one, maybe it'll work the other way, stand out more rather then look like a 2nd gen, just a thought

I think it looks fine. I would have like to try with bigger logo or alternatively RED to make a stand out. But otherwise I dont think smaller logo is going to be better than it is right now.

It actually looks like a love-child between a TS and a XR-series BA Falcon. I think it's great!!! Wished my TS could be fed steroids, love your work Dee. Keep it coming!:D

the TS has the middle part in the grille, sure you don't mean to say that it looks like a TR?
i'm planning to start doing the grille on my TR soon, basically the same as that, but probably blue mesh instead.
Dee - how did you mount the mesh up to the grille? is it just screwed to the back of the grille or something?
Dee, looks great.
Remove the mitsu logo, go and get some custome badges made up that say Dee and put it in the bottom right corner of the grill. (to break up the big hole)
Theres some site you can buy letters off to make your own badges.. And in just about any colour you want.
well the mesh.. i went to bunnings and got the hardest like mesh i could.. `ended up being some aluminium thingie, however it had a lot of flex in it.. which i thought would suck, and it did... but it had small holes, so i thought id be ok.. you can see this mesh in my first pics..
however.. today, i thought.. dang.. that looks kinda crap (cause u could kinda see how soft it was. it wasnt hard hard aluminium.. so i went to autobarn.. and got some of that bodykit mesh... the big chunky ones... but i didnt want to use this, because the holes were huge and you could see everything behind it .. which looks crap).. comparison pic of my dilemma.

So i thought.. crap.. both these mesh look crap.. but i still have my small holed bendy mesh stuck on the back piece of the grill, and i had put the harder, big holed mesh on the front.. so i put teh two together.. and viola!!!! loved it.. ahaha. And not only does it look a million times better.. but the logo looks and sits nicer i think.

http://www.deebyrne.com/newmesh3.gif
and i must say... looking at it in real life.. really gives the nose of the car a real bubble, hangover nose look... similar to what i love in the front look of the old mustangs.
you guys think its better? (if u can even notice the diff... pics are hard to show the difference)
big holes are sometimes ok, i say go big

hahaha. i put an order in for those last week they should be coming soon. my mate suggested it to me before, because they have names for their cars in those logos and i thought it looked good :D

Congrats to Dee ... reckon it's a great look. I think it looks better with the logo than without FWIW - a nice "don't screw with me" image for a nice dark colour.
I'd do it to mine but it would look slightly retarded with stock headlights and stock 15" rims lol ... roll on paras!
