Hey all

My TH advance auto lately has been acting funny. I live on a hill and to get to the main road i gotta chuck a u-ee straight from the side of the road and drift downhill for about 10 seconds.

Today as I was going down the hill and when it flattened out, I pressed the accelerator slightly and it seemed to have trouble choosing the gear. It sounded like it was in neutral and just revving higher, it then chose a gear and went fine. Was only for maybe 2 seconds. No problem after that at all.

More so though is the fact that it slips when i kickdown from 4th to 3rd. It seems to have gotten rougher and sometimes does the same thing it sounds like its in neutral and trying to find a gear. It will then select 3rd and then its all good. It also does this when going from 3rd to 4th. This has been happening the past 2 weeks and I only got my tranny serviced about 10,000kms ago. It happens every few days and usually really once on the day thats it.

Is this the start of something bad??

Did the RPM actually increase when it felt like it was in Neutral?
You might just be describing the slight pause in between downshifts (though usually only noticeable with a bit of pedal to the metal :)).

I've had this happen twice on my mums old TF, only ever did it twice and is still driving fine today (friends of ours baught the car). I still have no idea if it was jsut the TCU confusing its self or the beging of somthing bigger as you mentioned.

used to have the same prob with my TF. Had the transmission serviced by Mitsu, and it was ok for around 2 months then started again. Took it back, and they said it was reporting some codes indicating a prob with the ECU. They changed the ECU and reset the codes and hasn't faulted since. All up i think it cost around $350 for the ECU, and its replacement.
