Unforunatelty both the drivers and passengers airbag has popped and I was wondering what the average price is to have them reset.
Thanks

uh ho! how did this happen!? wasnt in an accident was it?
i'm pretty sure they can't be just 'reset' but they have to be replaced with new ones, which unfortunately i can't see being very cheap!

$1000 each is a guess. If is $600 each, you be lucky.

Would be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand steering wheel with an undeployed airbag wouldn't it?

Wreckers will charge a bit for them though.
Do you need to reset the Air Bag ECU as well?

if it just popped open... without an accident...
then take it back to mitsu and demand them to fix it.....

That's a good point. If their airbags are going off without an accident they should know about it.
"Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field (A), multiple it by the probable rate of failure (B), then multiply the result by the average out-of-court settlement (C): A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don’t do one."

There was a slight accident a just cosmetic to the front bumper and bonnet but the airbags went off. Just wondering what to expect when asking for quotes.

I believe that once the airbags have gone off in a car, it's usually written off due to the cost and pain to "reset" them.

There is nothing wrong with the car except for the airbags.

They should only deploy in a major accident (above 25-30km/h). I would still complain. 25-30km/h is going to do a fair amount of damage.

The airbags all get re-gassed & the price will fluctuate (that being at Mitsu it will cost alot more then a private mechanic)
no airbags ever get regassed! they get replaced with new units.. dont know where you heard that from????
ok mate.. u will need both airbag modules, drivers and passengers, and a new srs ecu!
in my experience, the passenger airbag normally warps the dash cover after the explosion, so u will probably be up for a new dash as well, if u want it to look neat! not to mention the clockspring.. the connector that goes to the airbag from the clockspring normally melts from the heat and pressure or the bag explosion, so a need clockspring may be needed!
after the bags and clockspring are installed, u will notice the srs light not cancelling, throwing a code 35 (air bags deployed), hence the reason to renew the srs ecu, that code cannot be reset!
from memory, air bags will be around the 800 or so dollar mark, clockspring around 400, and srs ecu prob around 500! these are only guesses but would be pretty close.. ring mitsu, or try your best hunting around wrecking yards or ebay!
when working with airbags, always have the battery disconnected, to save having ur neck broken in case of accidental deployment!
you will also find most workshops, like most panel beaters, would probably refer u to the dealer for repairs, as they dont know much about them, or are afraid to work on them! when really, it's probably one of the more simpler repairs on a car!
p.s: oh, dont bother mentioning it to mitsubishi.. u had an accident, the bags deployed.. normal! please ignore the comments made by others who DONT EVEN know the situation u were in when it happened!

What he said. :)
Airbags actually contain explosives that produce large volumes of gas very quickly (hence an explosion, rapid expansion). They are NOT cheap. Some reach $2K to replace (ouch) and must be fixed by law before a vehicle is sold. The vehicles are often written off due to the expense of getting a new dash, airbags, clockspring, etc etc.
It sucks, but safety systems are mandatory to be fully functioning in cars.

Thats odd. they dont go off till there is about a 60kmh impact...

My mum had a guy run into her in a carpark just after we got our ford explorer. This was about 9 years ago. It cost almost $7000 just for the airbags etc fitted, and then the repairs aswell.

Just out of interest, could you post some pics of the bags that have gone off - always wondered if they look like what they do in the adverts - also wonder where abouts they breach the airbag cover on the magnas - I take it they just split down the middle.

on a third gen, the steering wheel splits down the middle and theres like 2 doors that open up. and obviously on the passenger side that flap just opens up and a big square bag comes out of it.

I'm curious what happens to that square bit of plastic?
With that much force, wouldn't there be a good chance it will fly off and whack the passenger in the head?

Man I can feel for ya with thought of $$$$$ bill to fix airbags steering you in the face :(
stupid question guys, but do any of you know if All 99 TH sports come with drivers airbag?
It kinda mentions it in the brochure, and most listings on carsales and other places I think state that the car has drivers airbag as standard, but yet my steering wheel does not mention anything about an airbag, no SRS labels etc.
When I took the car a few years ago to a Bmw dealorship to consider a trade in (didn't go through with it) they checked the car out and seemed fairly sure the car had NO airbag at all. Just curious if anyone knows for sure.

Have a look on the sunvisors... If it's fitted with an airbag there'll be a little speel on there about still having to wear seatbelts and that they are only supplementary safety devices... If there's nothing there I'd say it's a fair assumption that there aren't any fitted.

They have a strap on them.. if they didnt the would hit you in the face.. Think they are strapped to fold down when they go off..:)
