Hi all,
By the looks of it I'm the first to get bragging rights on the purchase of a VRX series 2.
I woke up this morning with a bee under my bonnet after reading the artical in the Herald sun on the price slashing.
So I said to myself "Self it's time to take a test drive and start some Haggling" after a thrilling drive and allowing to do some driving monuvers that your typical grandpa and grandma wouldn't even think of doing, I was off to wheel and deal.
As I had made up my mind that I wanted 1 from when I drove about 3 k's down the road I knew that if they wanted a deal I could haggel all day. 3 hrs later I purchased the Vehicle.
Walked in 9am and by 12 noon I walked out with what I thought was a good deal.
VRX series 2.
Tow Pack.
Reverse Sensors.
Bonnet and Headlight Protectors.
Free tank of fuel.
Tinted windows.
And of course in Adrenaline.
all this for a low price of $31000.00 Drive away.

but hey it's not very often I need the extra space of the fold down seat. but that's just me, I can see that it would be of use for others.

Also what dealer did you go to, coz if I'm gonna haggle for a 380 I'm gonna go to those guys!:)

I know I know I'm going to get grief over this, It's the Auto.
It is a Series 2, although I have to wait for a week before I can get my hands on it. It has to come from S.A. I watched them order it over the Mitsubishi Dealers Intranet.
The dealership is in Dandenong (Vic).

Well done mate. If you go by the number of people posting here about the 380 it seems as though MMAL's descision of cutting prices was wise.
I must admit myself that a car with sexy looks, leather seats, nice interior and fancy extras such as a colour screen and ECM mirror is very tempting for $38,990. It's extremely good value and places the SII 380VRX in the league with the Calais and Fairmont Ghia in terms of features.
And how did you get a SII 380VRX for only $31k drive away??? That's bloody awsome value. So the deal you got would make everybody by them. Is it new or demo or driven by MMAL staff or something?

Oh I only just read the Adrenaline as your colour. Nice choice for the VRX... very unique colour.

The SII 380 VRX was $31k after trade-in of a 98 TF with only 127000 k's which I only got $6k for which still only takes it back up to $31k.
It's a brand new vehicle, nerver been driven by MMAL staff or by a rep.
If you do the math's
Tow pak $450
Rev Sensors $725
Tint windows $575
Head light - bonnet protectors $275
They come to $2025
Vehicle was on sale for $36990 drive away, add these items to it, price of $39015 minus the the trade in of $6000 it brings it back down to $33015, so not being happy with the price I start to talk turkey.
My final drive away price after 3 hrs of talking I walked away with a smile on my face for only paying $31000 drive away.

took you 4 posts to reveal that the price included the trade-in of another car? Kind of a major oversight.....
still, nice work, but would of been even cheaper and more impressive had it been manual! :P
now how bout those pics :)

My God in heaven, series 2 has just been released and already the VRX auto (RRP $38,990) is being sold brand new $36,990 drive away. Unless I'm missing something, it must be said they're really desperate. Sad really.

That's very true. But, if they can have a 'secure' customer under their sales before Series II was even in dealers to 'drive away' then they are likely to take some money off. Still $2k is alot to take off of the car and considering they also threw in $2k of extras as well he's effectively getting $4k off. Very good deal, but hopefully (for the dealer's sake) they can make that $4k back in the resale of his TF (they might still be able to sell it for $10k because of the low km's-they'll probably advertise it for $9990 but the person who buys it will probably talk the dealer into giving some $$$ off anyway).
Still a bloody fantastic deal though.

Congratulations, I have a series 1 VRX auto (05 Compliant ) which i picked up 3 weeks ago. Even after fleet, it cost $ 37500 on road ( inc Bluetooth and tint )amazing what can happen in 4 weeks. Great car to drive, and because I'm on the road most of the day, the auto was the only way to go. If I get bored, just switch it accross to manual. Good Fun! Fuel economy is pretty good to. It's getting better fuel economy than my wifes mitsubishi outlander. Only complaint - interior seems to mark fairly easy and some of the interor trims had there tape sticking out.

Doesn't that anger you a lot?
I mean, $37,500 3 weeks ago. Now you can get the same car but with stock standard leather for $36,990 and bargain it down a bit more. Also the value of the 05 will be slightly less then the 06, specially since the 06 has leather .. everyone would rather it.
I just find that ridiculous, hopefully your one of the ones who has been given some money back. Then again, I guess it's just bad luck and at least you have got a fine car.

Current RRP for auto VRX is $38,990. When you add bluetooth and on roads you're looking at around $42k all up. Though standard leather certainly adds appeal.
Probably bargain it down to around $38k... unless Mitsubishi dealers start their bloody patented discounting again.:doubt:

The 380VRX is exellently priced at $38,990 considering it now has leather, ECM and the better looking GT alloys. If you could get it down to $38k (without onroads, but with bluetooth) brandnew then I'd say it's a bargain.
About discounting, I don't think they'll start it again. It won't happen so much on the 380ES, 380SX or 380VRX but probably will on the 380LX and 380GT (particuarly the LX, not so much the GT) because the VRX. Especially considering the fact that you can get a brand new SI 380LX on carsales.com.au for $31,990 (plus on-roads) and that the SI LX has better alloys, a sunroof and the sports suspension. I'd prefer the SI in those terms, especially at that price (someone on here buy it please!:D ).

Fortuntately its a company car, otherwise I would be really pissed off, still the leather would have been nice.

My dad is interested in looking at a VRX or GT (another mitsi in the family!!)... whats the diff between the series 1 and 2?
As far as the GT is concerned, absolutely no change other than badging and having the sunroof as an option (instead of standard). Hence price drops from $47,990 to $44,990.
Once again in series 2, as in series 1, VRX poses as the better buy. S2 VRX gains standard leather seats/door trims, ECM (or 'auto-dimming rearview mirror'), the classier and better looking 380GT alloys, and the compulsory badging. With all these additions price drops from $39,990 to $38,990 for the auto; $38,490 to $36,990 for manual (note manual drops more... even better value!:P)
There is no real incentive to buy a series 2 380 GT other than:
1) bluetooth and rear park sensors (optional on VRX)
2) the ego trip of purchasing the "hero" car:roll:
3) the chance to get the car in "storm" grey (VRX has 2 cool colours in 'electro' and 'adrenalin' that aren't available in GT)
4) to gain a 10-way pwr drivers seat and 6-way pwr passenger seat
5) slightly different interior highlights
6) chrome body-side protectors:roll:
All for an extra $6k...

If you were to option most of the stuff in the GT on the VRX I doubt it would come to $6k. Some of the stuff such as memory drivers seat (LX and GT only) can't be optioned (well it couldn't in SI) same with the slate mohogany (or what ever it's called) trim, the chrome-side body protectors. Still though the price gap is significant considering there is now no big differences between the models (in SI there was, one had leather, better alloys and a sunroof, now the GT doesn't have a standard sunroof and the VRX has GT alloys and standard leather; in terms of noted features they are nearly identical). The only major differences are the 10-way electric memory drivers seat, 6-way electric passenger seat (they should make it 8-way passenger electric like in the KL/KW Verada Xi) the trim, bluetooth and parking sensors. Not too much difference for the $6k extra.

Sorry guy's it's taken me so long to post but I have been in negotiation with the dealership.
It seems that when I signed up to purchase the 380vrx specified the the vehicle I was to purchase was to be the series 2, I even watch then order 1 over the Dealership Intranet. It turns out that they didn't select 1 of the correct settings and they ordered a series 1 instead.
I didn't discover all this until the day I went to pick it up. upon first sight of the vehicle, it was the mag's that gave it away.
I said to the rep "this is not the vehicle I ordered", the rep replied, "Acording to the paper work you orded a 380 VRX.
Looking over the paper work it turns out that he had left of the Series 2 part off. I advised the rep that I wouldn't be taking delivery of this vehicle then.
He advised me that I had signed the contract for the vehicle they had supplied and the coolling off period had expired, so with that I started to read the fine print on the contract and I even call MMAL for advised, which in turn they said it's between you and the dealership.
So being faced with this situation I then spoke to the sales manager about the situation, he was a very pleasant person to talk to.
We started to Negotiate again.
The crux of it is that I got a further discount, but I am the owner of a 380VRX series 1 with all the series 2 offers except for the mag's.
I'm still happy with the vehicle considering it's a series 1 with series 2 updates. The leather was Factory fitted, confirmed by MMAL.
So guy's it looks like I jumped the gun when I started this thread.

Well the good news is that you've got leather.:D
Now all you need to do is fit it out with GT wheels, get a "series 2" badge, reposition the "380" badge to the other side and WALAH, you've got yourself a series 2.:D No one will know the difference...:shifty:

My friend just purchased a series 1 380 VRX (05 plate) in that purple colour, with factory sunroof (no leather) for $32,000 drive away (no trade in).
I thought that was good value given the sunroof.
It seems the discounting days are back at Mitsubishi.

Would have been a near-new demo with over 1,000kms. Demo's always pose as the best value, especially seeing as it's an '05 plated model.
