I've got a big problem with my instrument cluster from my AWD (one with the digital odometer). I bought a genuine sports membrane (white dials with red writing) to replace my standard ones. I got a proper speedo company to change them over ($80), as it required taking the needles off. Anyway, it works, is acurate, but is pretty hard to read at night, as its just not bright enough. Have LED's I can't upgrade it either. I've tried so many mitsu parts places with no luck. Anyway I got a few questions if anyone can help with I'd be greatful.

Does the illumination of the speedo cluster increase when you turn the headlights light on ? I'm sure it did this before the 'upgrade'. It doesn't now.

The trade price for a new cluster is $438 ex gst. So thats about $460 to the public. Then General Auto Electical is Sydney charges ~$150 to change the odometer over to the setting of my current instrument cluster. Does anyone know a cheaper way out?

Would be greatful for any help
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks for that. Yeah, it looks like going back is the only option now. Unless I can get a good deal at the wreckers, but Eddie's in Adelaide wanted $350 for a vrx cluster. They also said it wouldn't work in my car. Can't see why though
Cheers!

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but the white one - it is also designed to have light shone through it I would assume - would it not make sense to remove the original (black) one first so that all of the light gets through?

Also - regarding the odo on the other new cluster - can the instrument repairers do this? $150 is a gouge, I though that the ODO reading on the digital ones comes from the BCM nowdays...

yeah u can but the needles have to come off. I got a genuine ralliart face with the white numbers I think its easier for the light to shine through. But I got a complete ralliart cluster couase I was worried about the speedo being out. But then the kms didnt match so Im back to the original.

heres a link to the piccy of the cluster. http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=429485#post429485

The ralliart face looks wicked. I wouldn't bother with the whole cluster (i only have a 4 spd tippy anyway).
But then the question is, whats the Ralliart face worth? And will i have to modify the lighting behind them?

Thanks guys. I did the right thing and paid the money to have the needles off and replace the face by a pro, but it just doesn't light up properly (LED's in the sports must be brighter). Looks like changing the face is not an option. Someone on AMC also bought the same faces I bought on ebay at the time, and cut them out to put on a pre TJII magna. They seemed to have no problems! (had the blue faced VRX dials from memory)

I agree about Eddies - they are good guys. I've been going there for many years (used to go with my dad as a kid to buy parts for the Hillman Hunter Hustler GT! Eddies was a chrysler wrecker then). When I thought about it, the Odo computer would have to be different in a non-AWD cluster. I'll keep an eye out for a sports AWD cluster at the wreckers. I'm new to Sydney - any good spots (sorry I know this is an old question - just wondering if anyone has seen a AWD sports around lately).

Cheers!

Cheers mate - I'll call them tomorrow. I wonder if its the one I was going to buy? there were two at agostino at the time, my green AWD and a green sports AWD (I should have bought that one, but I hated the interior, looked like someone chucked up on the seats with the green pattern on black). In hindsight, I didn't mind it after all, wish I'd talked them down on the price...

I tried a ralliart 5 speed dash in a 4 speed tippy, the lights went 1-4. if u just get the face it goes 2-5 cause the lights dont match up. its got white numbers and the light shines easier than red. I was shore u could get the face from dealers but it seems now u cant?????
